Rookie here, looking for an opinion on a stone. I know she wants a RB and found one with the following characteristics that appears good to me.

Mounting will most likely be 18K white gold with pave or some type of side stuff.

RB Characteristics:
Information from GIA Report Check
Carat Weight: 0.99
Color: I
Clarity Grade: VS2
Cut Grade: Excellent
Measurements: 6.40 * 6.46 * 3.99 mm
Depth: 62.1 %
Table: 53 %
Crown Angle: 34.5°
Pavilion Angle: 40.8°
Polish: Excellent
Culet: None
Symmetry: Excellent
Fluorescene: None
Girdle: thin to slightly thick, faceted

There are 2 small crystal inclustions, one around the girdle that I think can be disguised by a prong. These are dark dots (carbon?) that can be seen by a loupe but I can''t see them via the naked eye.

HCA test scored the proportions as 1.4 Excellent.

Questions:
1. Is this stone that has good measureables? I know that the table is on the small side, but from what I''ve seen this is still within Tolkowsky proportions.
2. What ballpark would a fair price be via an internet vendor? Vendor is trustable type but has not seen the stone firsthand.
3. Would it be worth it to choose a smaller (about 92 pts) ACA H&A type diamond if it was a similar price?
4. Are there any other factors I should consider or be worried about?

Thanks

You have seen it in person? If so, it's a rare GIA VS2 that needs inclusions covered. It can happen though - or you have super-vision.

By the numbers it's beautiful. Tables in the 53-54 range can lend to incredible fire. Depending on minors it should look great in soft lighting.

Before you compare pricing is it possible to get an ideal-scope or ASET image? If the diamond is being sold as "H&A" can you get those images? I ask because they will reveal much about the minor facets and cut precision. You have a diamond with premium numbers now, and that's good enough to make general comparisons to other EX/Ideal candidates in the PS search engine. You need more info to make apples to apples comparisons of cut precision with brands like ACA.

Thanks John,

I have seen the diamond and you can't see the inclusions without a loupe and it really is not necessary to hide that one with the prong, but as I am a picky person I'd probably try to do just that.

Unfortunately the vendor does not provide ideal-scope or ASET images for the diamond I provided specs on.
However, the ACA H&A that I spoke about in #3 is through a different vendor that does provide these images but does not have them yet as the stone has not arrived yet (and they can't even guarantee it will still be available when it arrives).

To be more specific about pricing, the price in the one I provided specs on is in the low $4k firm. This is a very good price compared to what $s I'm seeing searching through the PS diamonds for pricing.

Thanks

You're welcome. The above doesn't sound right though. ACA ('A Cut Above') H&A diamonds are only available through Whiteflash. Unless you're working with Whiteflash and they have a stone at the lab which has not come in yet?

I understand about being picky (looking in the mirror)

...remember that in the long run it's like a new car though: You will obsess over every centimeter, super-analyze and keep it crazy-clean for the first weeks - but eventually you settle in more and enjoy the ride.

You''re right - the ACA H&A is through WF. It''s not in house yet and I''m told that there''s no telling if it will be available (not already sold) once it arrives. It is a risk for me to wait... A bird in hand is worth two in the bush.

Regarding the .99 RB I don''t think I''m going wrong. The price is within my budget and it has good measureables. Now to take it to an appraiser and make sure it lives up to the measureables.

Thanks for your help John.

Are you sure about that? If you speak to Lesley and tell her that you have definately decided on the ACA I am sure it will be put aside for you.

When I bought my ACA she called me with the details before it had come in and I told her I wanted it, and she said it was mine and wouldn''t be offered to anyone else as I had made a definate decision. I had not paid any money at this point.

If you are serious about the ACA ( and I assure you they are STUNNING!) then call her and tell Lesley you want it, I am postive they will reserve it as yours and not sell it to anyone else. Make sure you talk to Lesley though, she will organise something I am sure.

Good luck
