Hi everyone--

I''ve been doing research for several weeks and have whittled down exactly what I want, and I''m looking at four stones. Can anyone offer any opinions? All four pass the HCA test below 2

Diamond 1
$4,489
1.09 ct
GIA Excellent
Color H
SI2
polish VG
sym EX
Other: Additional clouds, surface graining not shown on cert

Diamond 2
$4,497
1.06 ct
GIA Excellent
Color H
SI2
polish VG
sym VG
Other: None

Diamond 3
$4,672
1.15 ct
GIA Excellent
Color H
SI2
polish VG
sym VG
Other: Additional clouds, surface graining not shown on cert

Diamond 4
$4,769
1.08 ct
GIA excellent
Color H
SI2
polish EX
sym VG
Other: Additional clouds not shown on cert

So far I am thinking Diamond #3 is a pretty good value, should I be concerned with "Additional clouds not shown" on the cert? How about surface graining?

Thanks for any opinions!

I am by no mean an expert on diamonds by no means, but I am certain people are going to at least want to know depth, table, crown, and pavilion specs., and perhaps even the shape of diamond you are looking to purchase. Giving them additional information may help them give a better--more informed opinion.

Hope you find the perfect diamond--I am on the same boat!

Good Luck!

I would guess round, if they used the HCA.

But you are absolutely correct, we need the rest of the info to make a helpful comment. Also need girdle measurement, and if any have strong to very strong fluorescence.

Sorry, my apologies for not including that info.

I only have the info for Diamond 1 in front of me, but I think this is up there for me as well...

Diamond 1-- $4,489

1.09 ct
GIA Excellent cut
HCA 0.9
Color H
SI2
Polish VG
Sym EX
Depth= 60.2%
Table= 58%
Medium Girdle
No Flourescence
Notes: No additional clouds, surface graining not shown on cert

Sound like a good value? Should I be concerned about the notes on the cert?

Then we can help

Crown is 33.5%
Pavilion is 40.8%

Measurements 6.69x6.67x4.02

dang it it deleted my lengthy post.

It has potential. Do you have any with slightly smaller tables? Personal preference I like fire and the crown angle on that one isn''t going to help much there.
Can you get an IS on it?

Can you clarify the ''comments'' on the stone? I think you listed clouds not shown on one, and no clouds on another?

"Additional clouds are not shown.
Surface graining is not shown."

That''s all it says, besides that the markings on the cert aren''t too bad at least for my needs-- as long as it is eye clean and it doesn''t affect light return/fire and all that I will be okay with it. I''m not a diamond expert at all, but I want something that will look amazing to the naked eye. I can find out about an Ideal-Scope, although I havent seen one for it yet.

My main concern is would this diamond be a good buy for what it costs? $4490 sounds pretty decent for a 1.09 with an Excellent cut, near colorless, and eye clean.

Haha, no takers? Ive given all the info! Any opinions would be very appreciated.

Sorry! Ok this diamond could indeed have potential, is it a diamond from an online vendor, or have you seen it in a store? If it is online, ask if you can get an Idealscope image for it. Also can you find out what the grade making inclusion is on this SI2 diamond please? If cloud/s are the reason this diamond is an SI2, then you would need to have it carefully evaluated to make sure it didn''t have an adverse effect on the diamond, this is rare but possible.

Yes, I''ve been talking with Whiteflash (Tracy) and they are bringing it in for me. So I should have an IS and magnified photo soon. The clouds and surface graining are not grade-makers. Grade-makers include feather, crystal, natural, needle, and cloud is also listed in the key but all marks on the plot seem pretty small. WF will be taking a look at it for me and I''ll be sure to post images I get from them.

Here is the GIA cert. A little hard to make out but as I said the plot doesnt seem that bad to me.

Additionally what should I be looking for on the IS image? Something about even distribution of pink and white?

Here are images of the diamond! Ideal Scope first. What do you think?

I think it is lookin'' good! What do you think?

The IS looks good. As :) pointed out, this one may lend itself a bit more toward white light return rather than fire, with the crown angle and table where they are. Some people prefer this look, nothing wrong with it per se. I''m not sure exactly what you are after. I would have Brian at WF look at it for you, he''ll give a honest opinion.

Thanks Lorelei and Ellen for your input, and to everyone else who posted! I decided to buy the diamond after WF saw it and told me it looked good to them as well! I''m not terribly picky about white light vs fire, as long as it is a well-performing diamond. Should be receiving it today, Can''t wait! I''ll be sure to post pictures once I have it in a setting and once it''s on my girl''s finger!

Thanks!

Please post hand pics if you can, we'd love to see them!

And you're very welcome.

Received the diamond last week and looks great!! I found myself looking at it whenever my girlfriend was not around and was thrilled with the light return! I felt a little nervous carrying it around on my person for 2-3 days, but I''ve finally had it verified and appraised, and the diamond now finally sits safely in my bank.

Here is the setting I am planning on, I''m going for 18k white gold...

I just need to send it back to WF to have them do the work for me. Any opinions of whether I should go 4- or 6-prong with this diamond?

I am so glad you are pleased with it! With the setting, it is a personal preference whether you go for 4 or 6 prongs. Some say that 6 prongs is more secure and makes the diamond look rounder, others prefer 4 prongs - so go with what you prefer.
