about the Ingwer setting linked below and I was wondering if anyone has seen it in person or can offer any feedback. Also, I did a search and I found a thread where someone referred to Ingwers as, "mass produced cast type of merchandise." Is this true? I was under the impression that Ingwers were pretty good. Anyway, thanks.

I can't speak for the quality of Ingwers one way or the other, having never dealt with them.

I can, however, point out that the insult doesn't actually say much - "mass produced" "cast type" and "merchandise".
What is the context? It is obviously a production piece, therefore it is cast, and by definition merchandise. What point is this person trying to make? Are they trying to imply something they offer isn't cast?
If that is the worst they can say then you probably don't have much to worry about.

I would bet that this comment was probably just typical nitpicking and denigrating other jewelery firms work, unfortunately a standard way to do business in this industry, and all too common.

I guess you have a point... I am trying to find a jeweler near me that has this ring in stock so that I can look at it in person. I'm hesitant to purchase it unseen.

I've been calling down the list of Ingwer vendors in my area (from the Ingwer site) and I'm having a heck of a time even finding someone who knows what I'm talking about. Everyone is saying "oh yeah, yeah, no problem we can get that for you" but no one seems to have it in stock or have any clue what they are doing if I offer the style number.

As far as the quality of Ingwer, I can't say too much b/c I've never seen one in the hand. But I think they can't be too bad since they use the harder 90/10 Iridium alloy instead of the soft 95/5 alloy used by many mass production companies (including Stuller). However, this could vary from ring to ring, especially since this style has engraving work on it and could have needed the softer alloy.

While going through the purchase process with GoodOldGold, I had them find a lot of specs on Ingwer settings for me (width, alloy, etc.). If they are willing, they will be able to get you any info you need from Ingwer on any style number. Of course, seeing it in the hand would be very different...hopefully you'll have some luck with local dealers eventually who might be able to order it for you. I might be doing the same thing soon. Good luck!

I am not sure that the 90/10 Iridium mix would imply anything about quality one way or the other, and has recently become quite out of favor.

Just to note, Stuller is using 95/5 Cobalt for all of thier products. For mass production, particularly with the use of mold-in-metal production, I think you will find it is quite commonly used of late.

Weird. GOG told me that Stuller was using 95/5 Iridium. Maybe there was a mix-up of information from Stuller or something.

Why has 90/10 gone out of favor? Quality? Or just because people like being able to say their platinum is 95% pure?

Just curious...

Hmm, looks like I'll have to do some investigative work. I'm really trying to find a local jeweler that carries this ring just so I can see it in person but I still have had no luck. I'm going to try some more today. I've spent so much time researching diamonds over the last year that I find I don't know that much about settings, beyond what I am looking for appearance-wise. I guess I'll have to do some quick research on alloys and stuff too.

One more bump. Doesn't anyone out there have this ring or at least hasn't someone seen it? Thanks, folks.

Fortunately, I found a woman on DT who has this setting so hopefully I'll be able to get some pictures from her. However, I'd love to hear from anyone else that has seen it as well. Thanks.
