I'm new to PS, but have learned an enormous amount of great information so far. Thank you all in advance for your thoughts and suggestions! I'm on the hunt for a diamond for an engagement ring. I have these two stones on hold right now and would like some experienced opinions on which you would personally buy, if either one at all. I realize this isn't exactly apples to apples comparisons since one is from the Brian Gavin Blue line, and the other does not fluoresce. I'm hoping since the Blue is J, it might bring the color up a couple grades, but I'm not looking for a blue tint in normal lighting conditions. There is a pretty good difference in price, and both are AGS 000. I've run the HCA numbers and both come back ex, ex, ex, vg. Please give me your honest opinions on what you think. I'm going to look at both of these in person this week.

If you have alternative suggestions, I'd definitely be willing to take a look at those as well. Thanks again!

PS: I can't figure out how to wrap the long URL above, sorry about that.

I am not an expert by any means but both of them look lovely and even better you will be able to see them(and other diamonds from WF&BG) in person.

You know your budget and if your bride to be is ok w/ a diamond that has florescence.

It might also come down to setting. If a particular jeweler has a setting you like, getting the diamond and setting in the same place saves some hassle.

Thank you for the reply. Yes, I am fortunate to see both in person. I'm kind of hoping the blue diamond will not fluoresce noticeably in normal light. As far as setting goes, I agree I'll probably buy from wherever I end up getting the stone. I've found options at BG and WF though, so I'm not factoring that into the decision.

You will not see blue under normal indoor lighting. Here is a pic of my VSB stone indoor.

Fluor is only seen under UV light - direct sunlight or under a black light. You will not notice it under "normal" lighting most of the time (at home, in the office, etc). It will not look blue.

Since it is a J color, do you expect that it will look less blue than say an H or I in sunlight? I would expect some of the natural color to offset some of the fluor. Is this a correct statement?
