Opinions Needed for this Princess

Hello Enthusiasts,

I was contacted today by USA Certed Diamonds. They located a diamond that I''m interested in, but I''d like some opinions. Here are the following numbers:

The Sarin reports different numbers: Any idea why?

1.499 ct
6.12 X 6.29 (1.027)
Depth 73.3 (4.49 mm)
Crown 46.0
Crown Height 13.4
Pavil Angle 59.6
Pavil Depth 56.1
Table 69.4 (4.25 mm)
Girdle 3.8%

The cost is $9700. Well, I''m not sure if the girdle thickness is a concern, but all in all I think the numbers make this diamond a possibility. Help would be appreciated.

Matthew I learned when I got to pick out princess cut diamonds for stud earrings for my birthday that they are hard to evaluate solely on the numbers. Is there any way you can see this diamond in person or have the vendor or an appraiser eye ball it for you? As for the difference in the sarin report, I am no authority, but there have been some threads here that indicated it is not unusual for there to be some variation.

everything in the report looks good and acording to them the stone should preform well. there is no substitute for seeing the stone live, but you have to make some concessions. The price is just what I think that it would sell on the internet. Just beware of princess cuts the corners break easilly even if the girdle is thick. Have it appraised before you buy it. Ed

Thank you for the responses, Sundial and Ed. I contacted RockDoc today who thought it''d be worthwhile to put it under his fine skills after seeing the GIA report. I also had the Sarin report sent which I was pleased to review. On Monday, sparing the weekend, I''m going to have this gem sent to Bill for review.

This weekend then I''m planning on going to a couple diamond jewelers with my girlfriend to look at the Princess vs Round cuts one last time. It''s very, very exciting for me at my age, older than I should be, to be buying such a precious item for such a wonderful person. It''s been well-worth the wait.

RE: Difference of Lab report carat weight to Sarin report carat weight


The carat weight reported by GIA / AGS etc. is an actual weight performed on a scale.

In the new Dia Pro Sarin software - there is a field for entering this weight, however, on the reports it issues, it reports a calulated weight. So commonly there are differences, as calculation results aren''t an exact weight - it is a formula which is approximated.

In the above, the difference is miniscule, but I thought I''d answer and explain why this happens.
