Hi Diamond Diana,

Any particular reason why #2 over #1? Because of the size or something else? Traci from WF just called and she''s recommending that I go with the 1.04. Should I call back and go with my original 1.12 stone I picked out?

Thanks for all the input. Sorry if I sound a little unsure just nervous about such a big purchase

Oh no particular reason other than you said you had put that one on reserve, but if WF suggested that you fo with the 1.04 then that is what I would have done no question. I am sure that you will be very happy with it!

The main concern is that she''ll be working w/ her hands a lot and pave probably is not the best for that. Also, any opinions on going w/ WG or PL given the fact that she probably will be washing her hands constantly. Will that adversely affect the coating on WG? Leaning towards PL b/c I don''t know how her skin will react to WG, and the various items that I''m sure she''ll come into contact w/ in her profession. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I would go with PL. White gold is softer and needs to be coated every so often. I have a white gold right hand ring. I''ve only worn it a few times and it''s already really scratched up.

I think either WG or plat will be fine as long as the band is thick enough for 24/7 wear. I am a nurse and mine is plat but I am allergic to WG. My mom was a nurse for 25 yrs and hers is WG - no problems. I chipped my diamond after 10 years and not while at work. My mom''s diamond is 2 cts and sits high and hers looks pristine after 43 years of daily 24/7 wear. I had a new plat ring made/ new diamond and I would NEVER wear it nursing in a ER setting. At a clinic or office, fine. The band is very thin, micropave, and it has a halo. Not made for hardcore nursing with your hands slamming against equipment, metal bedrails, etc all the time.

In the end, lifestyles change and evolve over time, so get her what you think she LOVES. She''s hopefully going to have it forever, so this is the bottom line.

Thanks everyone for all the responses. First and foremost, I had no intentions of deceiving the g/f, just wanted some other opinions. Like I stated earlier, the only reason why I even brought it up to her was b/c her car is starting to fall apart. However, after some more discussions and the various input here, I''ve decided it''s definitely best in MY situation to go w/ a new stone.

I''ve decided to go with the 1.04 stone above. Now it''s time to pick out a setting. Any opinions on the legato micropave? She''s in nursing school right now, but has always like the ''diamonds all around'' look and I really like the legato head.

And Thanks Again for all responses. This forum should definitely be required reading for anyone looking to buy a diamond

If you can afford it, go with the platinum. It is resistant to chemicals. I do love the Legato head, it''s gorgeous! I''m not sure about the micropave part personally. If she wants to wear her ring 24/7, it may be an issue although I don''t recall hearing of many problems with WF settings. It will be a gorgeous ring!

Excellent decision to go with a new ring! Starting off a marriage with a lie, well, no good can come of that, right? And if I ever found out that my ring was previously worn by a failed relationship it would bother me. Mind you, I fully realize that my antique ring was worn before but I dont know the relationship it was worn within so it''s fine by me. If I knew if came from a failed relationship, that''s a different story. And if I knew my FI/husband gave me the ring he gave his first, failed marriage? Well, I cant really type out what I''d think of him here, but he''d be out the door if he started our engagement with such an outrageous lie.

Now as to your ring, have you thought about taking her shopping so she can see what she prefers in terms of settings? I am a big supporter of ring shopping together. It''s terribly romantic and it''s the first really big purchase a couple usually makes and it''s a great bonding experience...IMO...

I definately wouldn''t use it. A diamond is more than just a rock. It is a symbol of the value you place on your relationship.

It''s not to say that the diamond is worthless now - someone who has no sentimental connection will love it and treasure it and give it a new life...

I think there would be too much negativity associated with the diamond and your GF will not enjoy it as her own.

In short - trade it in and get a beautiful new diamond to mark the start of a long and happy marriage.

I never was STUPID enough to tell her that it was a 2nd hand ring..... THIS IS A NO BRAINER.... of course if you told her she would not want it....!!!!

COME ON..... do you silly people think that every time you buy a diamond from a dealer - it is a new VIRGIN diamond????

Get real..... WAKE UP AND SMELL THE COFFEE..... the average 1ct diamond sold in America has seen about 3-4 different 'ETERNAL ACTS OF LOVE'.....

STATISTIC from a recognised diamond merchant! .....don't even ask about old cut diamonds!!!! ZAZA has seen fewer men!!!!
I'm not that experienced when it comes to internet forums, but I think I know a troll when I see one...
Ditto, thing2.
I just had to suggest to PMP in another thread that he needs to watch his manners on exactly this same topic.

PMP, even though you may be correct about SOME diamonds purchased, you're certainly not right about All of them. My stone I just purchased from GOG has a Nov 2007 cert. Now granted this May not be the first cert, but supposing it is I doubt its had time to be purchased, presented, returned, repolished and put back into inventory in such a short time....

This goes for many other PS'ers stones which all have new certs.

If I may, it seems from your various comments you have some animosity about this issue about "secondhand diamonds from secondhand engagements" , but do you have to bring others down with your bad attitude?

I for one would be interested in the source of your statistics aswell..?

I would definitely ask your WF rep to ask one of the designers about whether the ring with micropave is wide enough to be durable enough in this setting. I think that if it''s not, they might recommend WG over Plat for enhanced durability. WG tends to be harder. Plat is more durable because it gives rather than breaks. (think really hard knocks here) Whenever you drill holes in a band, you make it easier to bend. Therefore, if the band is thick enough, you should be fine. I personally would go with Plat because of the hand washing issues. Replating in this market is getting pricey.

Just know that if you do get micropave, some loss is to be expected. I''m not saying it''s not well done. I have one myself. (halo prong in plat from WF) It has held up amazingly well. I work with my hands too, and was expecting to lose a diamond here and there over the course of my life. If you can live with that, WF will certainly be able to fix it good as new. I hope that this has helped you.

You might want to ask WF about which setting would be most durable. They can (I believe) use the Legato head on different settings. Or, you might consider a plain solitaire with a diamond wedding band. She could wear them together to work, or just wear the WB later. Lots of options to look at really. I wonder if bead set pave is more durable?

Wow - why am I not surprised that you''re on at least your third marriage. Perhaps it''s your condescending tone that compelled your first two wives to run for the hills. And just for the record, it''s "Zsa Zsa."

I don''t believe in "mojo". I''d show her pics of a solitaire 1ct vs a halo''ed .8 in an ultra-nice setting and let her choose. Maybe you can find some pics here on PS!
Throw in the ''putting money towards a new car'' idea as well. But if she still says "No way!", you gotta go with what she wants to prevent future arguements/hurt feelings.

I''d pick the .8 in a super setting, but that''s me.

I am a nurse too, and don''t wear my ER to work much (unless I''m in withdrawl!), for fear that I will bash/lose/get something nasty on it. I''d leave it home no matter what it looked like, or how "fragile" it is.

Good luck with your decision!!

I figured I''d save ya the legwork... (sorry I can''t figure out how to post multiple pics in one post)
