Hi,

I've been searching for a diamond for the last couple of months, but have been extremely picky with my selection. I would like opinions regarding the following stone:

1.25 F/VS1 XXX Round Brilliant

Note: Additional Pinpoints are not shown
GIA 2126711270

Measurements: 7.03-7.06 x 4.21 mm
Depth: 59.7%
Table: 58%
Crown: 32.5 degrees
Pavilion: 41.2 degrees
Fluorescence: None

I'm having issue trying to attach the GIA certificate, but any thoughts and opinions would be greatly appreciated.

That stone has a very unusual combination of angles and proportions for a well cut stone. I think they would work together, but it would not be THIS picky and cheap buyer's choice ;-) Will you see it in person? If not, can you get photos and other images, like an ideal scope?

What is the price? What are you feeling picky about in your diamond (what are you looking for?)

I also wouldn't choose that particular stone. If I was investing in an F VS1, I would want ideal cut proportions. What is the price on that stone and what is your stone budget?

Thanks guys.. what "ideal cut" proportions should I be looking for? What is off on this stone? Is the pavilion angle too steep?

It was part of whiteflash's virtual inventory, so I can't get it photographed unfortunately. The price is 13,600.

I have been pretty picky about the inclusions... I liked that this particular VS1 does not have any crystals nor large inclusions in the middle of the table. I also do not want any stone with any cavities. I am okay with small feathers, pinpoints, and clouds, but do not like them in the middle of the table. It's been extremely difficult to find one with inclusions that I think are okay, without going to a VVS. My budget is probably right around 13-14 but I would probably go up a little more for the "perfect" stone - I wanted a 1.2-1.3 size.

I own a GIA F VS1 and mine is in a step cut-- which has much few facets then a RB and shoes inclusions much more easily. And mine has something under the table on the inclusion plot. And I can tell you that without a 40x loupe I can't see a THING in my diamond when it is clean. You realize that you are kinda driving your budget to the maximum for something you will NOT be able to see at all?

YOU WILL be able to see light return and performance. Every time you look at your stone. So I would start putting CUT way ahead of some tiny inclusions you will never see without a strong loupe. Stick to stones with AGS certificates that have a 0 for light return and at least ex for everything else.

Here's a stone I would consider. I wouldn't look at the inclusion plot. It's a plot. I would look at the 40x magnified pic of the actual diamond. As it is of the actual diamond and will give you a much better idea of exactly how visible an inclusion is-- at 40x (which is not a magnification you will see your stone at more than a couple times in your life). Keep in mind this a stone that measures ONLY SEVEN MILLIMETERS. So when you are looking at the plots and the magnified pics, keep that in mind.

They don't have the pictures up right now, but you can call them and they will probably get the information to you right away:
