Hello everybody! Long time lurker first time poster. I just wanted to tell everyone that makes this site what it is THANK YOU SO MUCH! I really have gotten my feet wet with the amount of information this site has to offer. By far the best site on the net!

Onto to Stone

Carat: 1.74
Color: D
Clarity: VS2
Measurements: 9.22x6.77x4.39
Depth: 64.8%
Table: 60%
Crown Height: 15%
Pavilion Depth: 45%
Girdle: Medium
Polish: VG
Symmetry: VG
Cutlet: None
Graining: Nil
Fluorescence: Slight Blue

The good news, when I use Dave Atlas''s DIY AGA cut tools the stone comes out to a 1B which is fantastic. I have seen the stone in person and the stone is a very nice stone with lots of sparkle and flash. The overall Length to Width ratio is ok at 1.36 and looks like a great buy.

The bad news, The Certificate: EGL2708217532, to my understanding is an EGL Isreal Certificate which can be somewhat unreliable.

The real question I have, Do any of you think in recent times EGL Isreal can be off by 3 Color Grades?

The stone is eye clean so I am ok with that, but I would NOT be ok with buying a stone GIA would say is a G. When I look into the stone upside down looking from the side on a white piece of paper I can SOMETIMES see a slight hint of color. Very very minute, but I am not a trained Gemologist just an average joe blow with a decent eye who may just be fussing over imaginary colors of sparkle and flash. Should I be worried?

Most people would not see any tinge in a diamond until at least the G level or lower so you may have a much lower color graded diamond than what it is claimed to be. Not that G is a low color but if you are paying for a D, you should get one. What is the price? I would want a very reasonable price on an EGL Israel diamond. If you really love it, I would take it to an independent appraiser to find out what they have to say.

ETA: Wait, what shape is this?

Jaz, its an oval. Welcome Marrow!

I ditto Jazmine's advice to get an independant appraisal, and make the sale final on you being happy with the results. I think it would be money well spent in this case. Here is a link you can use to find an appraiser in your area.

Double ditto!

congrats on the find! I am an oval lover myself. Some advice I got on here when I was oval hunting was that color shows more in ovals than it does in other cuts. So if you are color sensitive and notice a hint of color, you have to decide if it matters to you. Color isn''t as crucial to me, but to many people it is. I agree with jaz and do the independent appraisal. Is there a good return policy on the stone if you decide you don''t want it? Good luck with your decision!

eta--sorry I haven''t chatted with you all this week. My laptop decided to flake out on me but I am happy to report we are up and running again!!!
