Hi all,

I''ve obtained the following specs on a Tiffany round brilliant. What do you think?

Weight: 2.15 ct
Dimensions: 8.22-8.25x5.12 mm
Color: I
Clarity: VS2
Cut: EX
Polish: EX
Symmetry: EX
Depth: 62.2%
Table: 56%
Crown: 35.0 degrees
Pavillion: 43.0 %
Cutlet: None
Florescence: None

I''m looking for an opinion on the cut and optical performance.

Regards.

Bqn, welcome.

the numbers looks pretty good. Tiffany should also give you their own grading report along with GIA or AGS?

Based on the numbers it looks good. Is the girdle slightly thick?

Tiffany does their own grading which is consistently strict, so if the data is from a Tiffany document it''s likely a good performer.

I don''t believe Tiffany uses GIA or AGS. This came from their certificate. This one scores a 1.2 on HCA. Is there any other tool out there that can assess the optical performance? Does anyone have any knowledge into how Tiffany''s grading system compares with that of GIA or AGS? One of Tiffany''s claims is that they don''t accept faults such as black inclusions. BTW, the price is $33,000.

GIA for all stones over 1 ct is what it used to be. The all important pavilion angle would be on the GIA report if there is one. As for tools, an Ideal Scope.

Tiffany used to use GIA or AGS. I did her recently that they were working on implementing their own grading cert. so they may not be the case any longer. Did you ask Tiffany''s which lab graded the stone?

My ering came from Tiff''s. It came with a GIA cert and a cert done by Tiffany''s grading lab. HTH

Mine, too.

The price reflects a significant premium for buying the Tiffany name. So if you desire the Tiffany name, then the stone should be fine. However, for that amount of money, you could buy an equivalent ideal cut stone with higher color, or the same color for less money.

Examples from a few vendors:

http://www.whiteflash.com/hearts_arrows/A-Cut-Above-H-A-cut-diamond-70735.htm 2.09 G VS1 $33,826

http://www.jamesallen.com/diamond.asp?cid=131&item=861212 2.19 H VS1 $25,120

http://www.jamesallen.com/diamond.asp?cid=131&item=866268 2.20 I VS1 $20,960

http://www.goodoldgold.com/diamond/1900/ 2.25 G VS2 $33,858

All of these vendors can give additional info on optical performance.
