Long time lurker, first time poster. I have been researching round brilliant cuts for an engagement ring for some time now, and this website and forum has been a huge help, so thank you all first and foremost. Beyond my engagement ring search, the science and art of diamond cutting has intrigued me on a level surpassing what I had would have expected prior to starting. I can now certainly understand the fascination!

That said, I could use some opinions regarding the stones I am considering for this ring. Girlfriend has told me many times that she does not want a huge-looking diamond on her tiny hand (she has tried some on and thinks 1/2 ct would be perfect...) She has short fingers and a ring size of 3.75.

I have talked to some reps at James Allen and feel comfortable with them. One of them gave me his opinion on 3 diamonds I had found and provided the Ideal Scope images for them. Here are the specs for his favorite:

Carat weight: 0.71
Cut: Excellent
Color: H
Clarity: SI1 (confirmed to be eye clean)
Depth: 60.7%
Table: 57.0%
Crown angle: 34.0
Pavilion angle: 40.8
Polish: Excellent
Symmetry: Excellent
Girdle: Medium to slightly thick
Culet: None
Fluorescence: None
Measurements: 5.78*5.81*3.52
GIA Cert

Ideal Scope images for the 3 are below (the favorite is the first image). The last one seems to have more light leakage, but I am no pro at reading these things -- they all score <2 on the HCA tool. Would like to know your thoughts.

It would be set in this setting in platinum. My budget for diamond+setting is $4-5k, and this combination falls within that range. I know I could probably do better on the price from other vendors (even with the Pricescope discount at JA), but again I have grown comfortable with JA and really love this setting. Any thoughts/opinions would be appreciated.
