Hello guys..

My bf and I are pretty set on a rock here.. but before we make the purchase, I want to get some opinions from the experts.. to make sure we didn''t overlook anything.

We have a limited budget... He wants to spend around $3500-$4000 total.

I was considering several "Expert Selections" rocks on WF in the 0.72, 0.74, 0.75, 0.77 ct, VS1, G-H range.... and they''re all in the $2500-$3000 range.. very good values for all of them.. but ALL the ones I had my eyes on were SOLD to others within days after I bookmarked them. I figure big chance they were sold to fellow PS''ers.
We had nobody to blame since neither of us really contacted WF about them..

So this week we get more serious about buying the stone ..

After looking around again (not too long).. we set our final pick on this one, from James Allen.

Shape: Round Ideal Cut (AGS 0)
Carat weight: 0.85
Color: H
Clarity: VS2
Depth: 61.7%
Table: 54.4%
Polish: Ideal
Symmetry: Ideal
Girdle: THN-MED
Culet: None
Fluorescence: NEG
Measurements: 6.11*6.13*3.76
Crown Angle: 34.2°
Crown %: 15.7
Pavillion Angle: 40.7°
Pavillion %: 42.9
HCA Score = 0.9 (Ex,Ex,Ex,Vg)

This one caught our attention because it''s bigger in carat and it still fits in our budget. I also saw several good 0.70 ct stones, VS1, F-G color, better in both clarity and color for about the same price. I am leaning towards this one mainly because of its size. The closer to 1ct the better :)

But my bf also said that people probably wouldn''t notice the difference between a 0.70 ct and a 0.85 ct. Is he right ? If he is, then I would like to reconsider going with smaller but better quality....

Thoughts ?

Thanks a bunch !

There is nothing low quality about that diamond from the info presented.
Do you have an IS image?
If the IS image looks good no reason not to go with the bigger diamond.

Thanks for the response strmdr ..

No... I don''t have an IS image.. btw IS = Ideal Scope, right ?

The diamonds on JamesAllen website do not have IS images... but maybe I could ask for one ? I can ask, can''t I ?

Yes, you can ask James Allen for an IS and other images as well. If it's a PS approved cut... AND it's bigger... and it's eyeclean (better be with a VS2)... and it's a nice color. I say go for it. Keep in mind... YOU are the one wearing it, YOU are the only one who needs to know it's bigger. lol. And it sounds like you will definitely know.

ETA: H is a great color in a round. Just about every PSer here would go to an H in a heartbeat for a larger mm sized diamond. And most would go down to SI1 too... so VS2 is great. And with a round... I really don't think you will notice the difference between an H and an F unless they are RIGHT next to each other ... and then maybe only from the side because they face up so white, well cut rounds. You WILL notice mm difference though. 6 x 6 is a good size. I have a 1.09 asscher and this round is bigger than mine. I say get the IS and everything... and if it checks out, go for it. You aren't sacrificing anything of great import IMO for the size.

Bobacha,

If that stone doesn''t work out for you (bad IS), this is a great choice from WF:

.782 H, SI1 (1.4 HCA) $2883

thanks Gypsy,
I think I''ll be very happy with an H color as well..
I just couldn''t imagine the size of a .85 ct vs .7 ct. When we went window shopping at B&M stores.. we''ve only compared .75 ct vs a 1.0 ct ..and we did see the obvious difference in size :)

I have just emailed Bob @JamesAllen for the IS image... I''ll post here when I get it..
Hopefully there won''t be any problem .. my bf is ready to pay for it

I can''t wait to wear a ring on my finger :)

Tonight we''re gonna decide on the setting.. we know we want a Stuller Solstice..in White Gold... we just need to decide on the options available .. bombe/knife edge, head height, peg/non-peg... there are too many options ..

and thx Ebree for finding another comparable stone.. I love WF Expert Selection.. I''m just a little unsure about the inclusions on an SI1 .. I''m ok if it''s Eye clean..

My bf just talked to them again asking about the IS image... but they said that they don''t do IS image ...

Well we''re ok about this... since the cut, proporition, and HCA score, and everything else looks so good.. the IS image can''t possibily be bad, can it ?

Bobacha, I have bought 6 AGS0 diamonds without an IS image. I have taken IS pictures afterwards and they all look pretty nice, symmetrical arrows, lots of red. But more important than the IS is that they all look great and pretty similar. Taking the IS pictures of the diamonds was more of intelectual curiosity. I can easily tell differences between the diamonds in the IS images but visually they look really similar. Good luck.

Thankss...

but Darn it .. our diamond was sold to somebody else.. after we put a "hold" on it .. it''s the computer''s/ database problem. ..

so we''re back to looking around again..

these were the recommendation from Jim S. himself.. all three of this are priced about the same, and about $150 more than our original selection ( the 0.85 ct above ).. but they''re going to give us a discount to keep it at about the same price as our original pick.

I''m liking #1 the best.. basing on the HCA score since everything else is pretty much identical (to me).
