Hello experts,

I''ve been lurking for a while now and am always impressed about how little i really now. I have been going back and forth between b&m stores but am now close to a decision with the following diamond from WF:

1.5 Princess Cut
6.35 x 6.40 x 4.40
Total Depth: 71.0%
Table Size: 69.3%
Pavilion Depth: 59.1%
Crown Height: 10.2%
Crown Angle: 25.2

I have also attached an image for reference...I was only able to attach one so I will try to include other images shortly. I am sure I missed something so let me know if I can add anything else to help with comments.

Any feedback would be appreciated.

Hi Verv!
Sorry I wasn''t able to view your pictures. I have satellite internet and apparently there is a cloud in the sky. I assume that the dimond you are looking at is a GIA. I have looked at the numbers for princess cuts until my eyes crossed, but I never really got it down. I finally put my choice in the hands of James at WF based on the glowing recommendation here on PS. I just received my ring last week and I couldn''t be happier(there are pictures in Show me the Ring under the heading "It"). I took it to my local jeweler and he said I got a smokin'' deal on a very high end piece. He said he wouldn''t be able to get the same ring of the same quality at what I paid, let alone sell it for that. My advice is to trust WF. They are the real deal. If they recommend this stone, it''s probably a very safe bet to be a beauty. It is so rare these days to find a company who really put customer service on such a high priority and also sells top notch quailty at incredible prices. They totally knocked themselves out for me and I hear the same from many others on this forum. Plus, if you are not on a tight schedule, remember you have a ten day inspection period. You also have the trade up and buy back poilicies to fall back on when you buy an AGS or GIA certified diamond. If WF recommends the stone and it turns out not to be to your liking, they will work with you. I don''t think you will be disappointed with your WF experience.

What is the color and clarity of the diamond you are looking at? Is it going into a ring? Will WF be setting it for you as well? I hope you will post the rest of your story. I''d love to hear how it all turns out and see pictures too (unless there is another bleeping cloud in the sky

The cloud must have blown over. I finally was able to view your pictures. The idealscope and Aset look great to me! There are others around here who know a lot more than I do about interpreting those pictures and I''m sure some of them will chime in. What does WF say?

Thanks for the reply teacherk, I agree with WF - they have helped me a lot. Sorry for the lack of info - i guess it was a little late last night. It is F colour, VS1 Clarity with good polish and very good symmetry with no fluorescence. According to the GIA report there is a small feather on the table.

It is for an engagement ring and i plan on having WF set it in a legato sleek setting and ship it over to Toronto, Canada. Does anybody have an issue with having the ring set and shipped to an appraiser, instead of shipping it loose and then having to send back to WF and have it set, just to have it sent back?

As an aside, I am having difficulty finding an appraiser in the area that have diamonds shipped from internet venders for the general public and i find it hard to believe. I contacted Harold Weinstein, who was recommended on this site and they said they would help me out but they weren''t sure about the insurance involved during the shipping process and when the diamond arrived in their warehouse. Anyway, I was hoping to find someone in the area that has done this before and is set up to receive diamonds.

Hope this helps.

Thanks again.

T-1 day...

I''m likely going to go with this diamond tomorrow but I just wanted to throw it out there one more time to see if there is anything to look out for...

If i don''t hear back from anyone tonight just wanted to say thanks for the information leading up the purchase anyway.

Take care

I am no expert, but to my untrained eye, the ASET looks excellent. However, I might want to find a stone with very good (or better) polish and symmetry. I am not really sure how important polish is, but yours is only good. I''d also want to see a picture of the stone, which I''m sure WF will gladly provide.

The legato sleek line setting is one of my favorites...nice choice!

Thanks for the reply - i did ask about the polish and symmetry. I was dealing with Sheerah at WF and she was very helpful and did mention that you would likely be able to see the difference between good polish and very good/excellent, however it would be at a cost premium and that myself and hopefully future (fiance) would not be able to see any difference viewing the diamond alone.

I do have a picture of the diamond, however it is over the 100kb and the computer i am on is a relic with terrible software so i can''t resize...

Hi, Verv:

The answer really depends on how extensive an appraisal you plan to get. If it''s a just a basic appraisal to say "yes, the diamond matches the grading report" and/or to get an appraisal for insurance purposes, appraisers can do that when the stone is set.

If you want a more in-depth appraisal, you''ll get more precise information from appraising a loose stone. With mounted stones, they can only estimate color grading and measurements.

Some folks feel comfortable enough in the color/clarity grading the lab provides (and do a mounted stone appraisal); others prefer the second opinion opportunity an appraisal provides.

Either is a fine option depending on what you hope to get from your appraisal.

It looks quite good, let us know all know how you get on, I would be interested to find out. I think the Polish is OK - I AM a big fan of princess cut.
