Hello,

Trying to avoid the gap issue with the Vatche X prong, a sales associate from Blue Nile said this wedding band is small enough that it will not interfere and cause the gap issue associated with many conversations had on this board about the gap with the unique Vatche X prong.

Not being very familiar with PAVE styles, will this look good with her 1 carat round Heart and Arrows diamond ( purchased at Good old Gold)?

Pls be honest, Ty. The other option we have is the vatche #223 but has less diamonds than this one.

Thank you in advance

Is the sales associate at Blue Nile truly familiar with the D. Vatche X Prong setting, because Blue Nile has never carried the D. Vatche line. I would hesitate to provide advice on a line that we''ve never carried because I would not be familiar enough with the nuances of the design line to make an accurate representation, but we''ve carried the D. Vatche line at Nice Ice since it was first introduced.

The basic configuration of the X prong design is such that it will push a straight band off of the ring to a distance equal to the gap that exists between the flat edge of the band on the D. Vatche X Prong engagement ring and the inner curve of the D. Vatche #209 matching diamond band. It has to because the edge of the prongs extend out past the edge of the straight edge design of the ring shank on the engagement ring - turn the ring sideways and look at how the wires that make up the x prong configuration extend out past the edge of the ring. D. Vatche offers two options in a matching band diamond for the X prong design, one is the #209 pictured here with an X Prong Pave (because we don''t have a plain X prong in-stock at the moment) and then there is a straight version of the ring.

I''ve tried to minimize the gap in the photograph by pressing the rings together, but the reality is that the two rings are held together by tape at the bottom and thus they fall apart a bit - the gap can be minimized by soldering the rings together, but there will always be a bit of a gap between to the sides of the X prong configuration and where the bands meet along the sides. The gap is significantly less with the #209 curved band than would be with a straight anniversary band. The gap issue is not something suffered by the D. Vatche X prong design alone, many wedding sets suffer the gap because the prong configurations extend beyond the edge of the ring shank in order to minimize the height at which the prongs stand above the surface of the ring. Designers walk a fine line trying to minimize the height that a ring stands above the top of the finger and how much the prong configuration pushes a wedding ring beyond the edge of the ring.
