I have finally selected a diamond and decided upon an engagement setting for my FF...problem is now I don''t remember the size of her ring finger (either a 6.5 or 7, but not sure), and now she is traveling until Aug. 17th. Anyway, it is going to be a Tacori setting in Plat. meaning that it is going to be at least 4wks to have the stone set by Tacori.

I''ve heard that it is not very easy to re-size rings in Plat, but waiting another few weeks to get her sized again is not the ideal situation either. Ultimately I''ve been looking for a LONG time, so a few more weeks will not matter that much, but what would you do if you were in my shoes? Thanks everyone!

Does she have any friends you could ask? If you want to keep the proposal a surprise, I can see why you don''t just want to blurt the question out over the phone, but I don''t think it will ping her radar if, say, her best friend starts moaning to her over how her fingers have swollen in the heat, going from X to Y, and asking what size her fingers happen to be ....

putting her friend or a relative up to it is a good idea. another one may be to see if she has any rings already in her jewlery box that you could use

Well, it is not really a surprise as we have talked about this a lot in the last few months, and she doesn''t wear rings. Honestly, since I know that the size is either 6.5 or 7, asking a friend/relative wouldn''t be any closer. I could go with one of those, I just don''t want to have the hassle/time of getting this re-sized, and I am not sure of the potential risk that re-sizing puts on the setting (which is not an inexpensive purchase). Would it look funny, is it possible for it to be scratched/weakened metal, etc.

She is also in South America now, so no ability for her to get sized there.

Hmmmm, perhaps you could go in-between the two with a 6.75?

It depends on the width of the shank, as well. I can wear a 5 with a 3.5 mm shank, but if it has a 2 mm shank, I''m a 4.75 and sometimes smaller.
