Can anyone offer me an opinion on the ring shown in the attached link on EBAY?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=012&item=220015269414&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&rd=1

The seller has excellent feedback. Although I know little about diamonds, the specs listed appear good. I''m aware that it is clarity ''enhanced'' and am ok with that. Although this looks like a good deal - i cannot find anything about the IGA lab that has certified this diamond. Does anyone know anything about IGA?

In general I''m looking for 2+ CT, G or better, SI 1 or better (clarity enhanced ok), round; under 10k. The ring above, plus several others from the same seller on Ebay seem to meet this.

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

I have a real problem with the appraiser indicating he is "Certifed" by NAJA. I don''t think he is. I doubt the SI1 is a true clarity grade, either. SO

That is a ridiculous price for a 2.5 ct rock. There is no such thing as a free lunch. Caveat emptor. I wouldn't even THINK about it!!

ETA: AHHHH, read carefully. It is CLARITY ENHANCED.

I refuse to buy anything that is fracture filled. That does explain the price though. The diamond is probably a true I1 or I2 before treatment.

Agree with C Smith. If you choose to find out more, be sure to ask about the diamond's actual clarity as opposed to apparent clarity - which describes the visible effect of the enhancements.

The major labs will NOT GRADE Fractured filled diamonds for some very good reasons.

In plain layman''s language you are buying a cracked stone. But it has a resin in it that makes the cracks either less visible or not visible.

SO how can you clarity grade the stone honestly and ethically? It could look like an SI clarity grade when examined after the treatment, but it''s real clarity grade "once you take the mask off" is probably a lot lower a grade.

The people who do the treatment guarantee to retreat is if the treatment "comes out" . But what if it breaks where it was treated because the fracture opened? I would suggest you ask whomever you are buying it from if they will guarantee it for replacement if it breaks, and if they won''t I''d suggest you get a response to whether a claim would be honored for a stone that had an inherent problem. ( Many insurance company''s exclude coverage for "inherent vice").

As Dave pointed out, ask NAJA''s headquarters the following:

1. Do you CERTIFY members?

2. What does a member have to do to become certified with NAJA (if they do certify members which I am just about positive that they don''t).

3. Is the person or company that produced the report a member, and are they CERTIFIED?

Take these experts advice and run far away from buying a diamond on EBAY. I'd definitely rather have a smaller ring than a clarity enhanced diamond anyday. BE VERY VERY CAREFUL...that's alot of money to lose on ebay and even harder to get back if you aren't satisfied with what you get!

ETA: you only have 2 days to return...thats not much time considering the money you will be spending. Be certain to use paypal with credit card so you have the most protection possible. Your credit card will protect you and stand behind you if the seller refuses you a refund!

thanks very much for your advice.
