I have been working with a wholesaler I know and he found a diamond that he says is really good. It is a 1.51 Round diamond, SI2 clarity and H color. He says that the diamond is eye-clean and does not appear cloudy and quoted me a price of $7,826. The cut, polish and symmetry are all excellent, and there is no fluorescence. The actual table and depth are 62% and 60.2%, respectively. I was originally looking at 1.6-1.75 carats, but it seems like the difference between a 1.5 and 1.6 carat round diamond is negligible. Does this seem like a good deal? I just want to be sure before I pull the trigger.

Thank you!

Is this a GIA graded stone?

The table is 62%??????

Yes this is a GIA certified diamond (I have seen the certificate myself). According to that documentation the table is 62%. Is that something I should be concerned about?

This is a modern round brilliant, correct?

Yes, that table is HUGE. If you can get the specs off the cert, enter the table %, depth %, crown angle and pavillion angle into the HCA https://www.pricescope.com/tools/hca. Anything under 2 is worth investigating further - i.e. then get an idealscope image to assess light performance.

CUT quality is of utmost importance - it is what makes the diamond sparkle and look big and white, and an ideal cut stone will face up larger and whiter than a less well cut one of the same weight. Cut is the interaction of the facets - the angles at which they are cut and how they play together. This stone is very far off ideal proportions already, and chances are it isn't an eye-clean stone either (meaning you will likely be able to see inclusions).

Please look up at the top of the page and start reading under the knowledge tab. Whoever is trying to sell you this stone is doing just that - trying to sell you something. There is no such thing as a wholesaler who sells to the public - if they do they are by definition not a wholesaler. PLEASE don't buy this stone - there are MUCH nicer stones to be had!

What is your budget? And are you open to buying a high quality stone online? We can help you!

Thanks for your response! The diamond got a score in the low 4's with the HCA tool. I am definitely open to buying a diamond online, and my budget is $8,500. Minimums I'm looking for are 1.5 carat, I color, SI2 clarity and excellent cut. Any help would be much appreciated!

Hi nkleeke,
I have purchased a diamond on line and had a wonderful experience.
