I am thinking about looking at this diamond in person this week and have a couple of questions.
It's GIA 2145956869
Rd 1.71
It rated a 1 on HCA scale
The GIA report states it's a VVS2 but in the reference diagram it seems to have a lot of needle points and a cloud. Isn't that unusual?
The report is 8/24/2012 does that mean it is likely previously owned?

thanks for your help!

$23k sounds like an awful lot of money for 1.71 carats (or even 1.8, whichever it is) in I color. My 1.7 carat G/SI1 was under $15K and also had a good HCA score.

It's hard to tell if a diamond will have light leakage just by numbers alone. You'll want to ask for an idealscope image.

I don't have the price for this diamond yet. I rejected the 1.8 because of the low HCA score. I just located this diamond today.

You somehow have diamond specs in your tagline area beneath the posting box. It will be much less confusing if you can eliminate that! You probably have to go to the My Pages tab and go to your account to change that.

The numbers look good on this one! It has potential. It would be great if you could get an idealscope image, but if not a highly magnified image of the diamond would be helpful.

VVS2 is extremely clean to the eye and with a 10x loupe. Obviously anything below IF has some minute inclusions and the plot shows them. But you won't be able to see them without a microscope. VS1 is safe, too, and I am not sure I would pay for E VVS, personally. I'd go to F VS1 for more value or greater size in the colorless range. Of course, it does depend on the price! Ask the jeweler if the stone has been traded in to their knowledge. A 2 year old report just may mean fewer people are willing to pay for E VVS. A lot of people go to G-J colors to get more size within their budget (and lower clarity than VVS).

Thanks for the advise. I'll try to see if I can check out a F VS1 also for comparison
