Hello All!

This is my first post, so be gentle. I have been researching via multiple forum threads on your site, and taking my knowledge to the normal online sites; Whiteflash, Blue Nile, James Allen, etc.

I found this stone, and was wondering what you all thought as far as specs and pricing. Cost for this is $13,000.

SPECS
Weight: 1.50 CT
Cut: Ideal/Excellent
Color: F
Clarity: VS2
Symmetry: Ideal/Excellent
Polish: Ideal/Excellent
Table: 56%
Depth: 61.4%

ANGLES
Crown: 35%
Pavillion:40.8%

Rates a 1.5 on the HCA

I thought the crown angle would be a lil big, but it seemed according the HCA, it is ok in relation to the pavillion angle. I was thinking of pulling the trigger on it, so any input as to why or why not this is a good buy would be appreciated. That way I can take any new knowledge/information/criteria into consideration if I need to search for a different stone.

Thanks all in advance for your help!!!!

What is the lower half number? And the girdle variation? I am assuming this is GIA graded?

Hi jpoon

It could be a very nice diamond, sometimes if not tightly cut these angle combos can show slight leakage, if you could get an Idealscope image for this diamond it would be helpful. Also the lower girdle facet and star percentages would be helpful, the diameter in MM and girdle thickness. However from the info given I would say it would definitely be worth getting an IS to check this diamond out, some vendors will offer these images on request.

Where you mention polish/ symmetry Ideal/ Excellent, which is it please? It can't be both, AGS labs use Ideal as their highest grade and if this diamond is GIA graded the highest is Excellent for polish and symmetry.

Sorry for the lack of info. To clarify, it is a GIA stone, so I guess that would make it excellent for symmetry and polish. Also the girdle ranges from thin to slightly thick.

As far as the star and lower numbers, based on the what I can see on the report, I think they are 55%, and 75% respectively.

I''m not sure if those are right, but from what I read on other forums, the numbers you are asking for seem to be around that area. (50''s% for star, and 75-80% for lower)

Unfortunately, the stone is from Blue Nile, so no Ideal Scope picture is available.

Forgot to add the dimensions in the mm.

7.35 x 7.40 x 4.53 mm

Thanks!

ya, those are the star and lower half numbers. Not that safe from the look of it but not an immediately strike out. So the question now is do you want to take a risk or find one from a vendor that can provide Idealscope image instead?

Thank you! I would prefer longer LGF to be on the safe side, but it still could be a great diamond if the angle averages are tight, unfortunately no way to know without images....

So given that many people have bought from Blue Nile in the past and they did not have the benefit of looking at an Ideal Scope picture, what numbers are signaling a safer buy from them?

How are the numbers on the stone I found? What criteria am I missing, that would allow me to make better judgment to narrow down my selection on my next search?

If anyone has any suggestions on a stone, I am looking for a 1.50 colorless stone, with a clarity of VS2 or better.

Thanks!

Budget? DO you have to buy from BN or is other online vendor ok with you?

I''m not really particular with the vendor, as long as they are reputable.

I was hoping not to spend more than $14,000, but I''m not sure if that is possible given the parameters I am looking for.

Thanks for the suggestion.

I just ordered the ideal scope image. How did you get that price though? It is showing over $15k when I click on it.

I will post it as soon as I receive it. I also ran the numbers on the HCA, and it returned a 3.2. Should I be concerned?

Do a search from PS using the price comparison.

https://www.pricescope.com/panning.aspx The link will automatically reflect that you are a PSer and qualifies for a PS discount with JA, I believe is around 5% off, + another 1.5% if you pay by wire-transfer.

Thanks Stone Cold.

I was using the search by cut function.

The larger lower half should compensate for the slightly steeper pavilion, which is why an IS image is prefer to look at this stone, but the loupe image looks promising.

Ya, search by cut usually only has stones that are in-house.

I am such a newb.....

I appreciate all the input and guidance.

As soon as the image comes back, I''ll post.

If it is a winner like you think it might be, the search may finally be over!

I have ordered Ideal Scope image for the second (1.57) as well.

I''ll post them as soon as they are available.

Stone, Lorelei, thank you to the both of you giving your input and advisement!

Stone, Larelei,

What do you think of this stone? I presently have it on hold. The PS price is $11,990. I believe it is an AGS000 stone, since it is from their "hearts & arrows" collection. I spoke with a Hilary there, and she said it is eye-clean, and would be indistinguishable from a VS2. It rated a 1.2 according to the HCA, however I left the culet measurement as 0, since it is only noted as pointed with no measurement on the report.

I think this is the one! I feel that I couldn''t get a better cut at the price and since it is a F color and is eye clean, I am not really sacrificing anything. (And if my gf can''t see it, then I don''t care what''s in there)

Please let me know as soon as you guys get a chance, so I can move funds appropriately.

Thanks again for all your help!

Idealscope for the 1.5 carat looks nice! Eye clean SI1's are a great value.

Thanks for the input Laila.

I''m definitely leaning toward this stone.

Yap, IS looks good, but the hearts image seems a little off probably due to image taking problem and not the stone, but if you are anal about a H&A, might want to have that retaken?

Hey Stone, glad to finally see your 0.02!

Well no matter what, I was going to get the diamond appraised by an independent party. What do you think of the price? Is it a great value? good? fair?

Can''t thank you enough for your time.

JA prices are usually very good, didn''t do a comparison for this yet though, but the H&A stone will have a premium to it, so slightly more expensive than a non-H&A of similar proportion, but those will need to request for IS image and takes a bit more time to fine the good one. Depends on if you want to save time or money I guess. :P

I had the same thought as you, but when I did a search for comparisons on their site using the Ideal cut option instead of H&A, I couldn''t find anything cheaper.

Additionally, I even checked WF''s ACA cut stones, and they were priced thousand above this.

To be honest, I thought that this was an exceptional deal. Am I wrong?

If anyone as any input to the price I am paying for the stone, it would be greatly appreciated.

In fact the more the merrier!

My primary factor in determining comparables, was to identify other AGS000 stones.

I am very inclined to AGS''s cut and light performance standards, as these are my most important factors, next to my 1.50 CT minimum.

Thanks all for taking the time for looking and feel free to comment!
