I recently asked one of the PS vendors to pull some diamonds and asked for their trained eye opinion. The answers I received are below:

1.+ H VS1 --Very beautiful diamond, excellent brilliance and fire, faces up very white

1.+ E VS2 --Amazing brilliance and fire, lots of personality, faces up very icy white

The descriptions to me seem pretty standard (an "E" should face up icy white), but this is the first time I have had someone pull diamonds for me. Is this typical response other PS people have experienced when using e-mail?

I assume a phone call would give more detail, but I am trying to make the best use of my time in getting info and also not tie up vendors with lots of live pull requests.

I am not looking for a novel written about how the light reflects off each facet, but I thought maybe there would be more of a pro vs con type desription. Since I am new to the diamond world I just wanted to see if my expectations are too high for a certain level of service.

Thanks.

Really and truly, if they are both ideal H&A diamonds, they''re both beautiful. Color is subjective and you''d have to decide your limits on color. Both have good clarity. So I''m not sure what else they could say! Only your eyes could decide which you prefer!

I think that you''d likely get more of a pro vs. con description if you were dealing with stones of lower clarity, etc. Then, you''d likely hear something more like "the inclusions in the H are white, but located under the table. The inclusions in the E are dark, but they are off the table and able to set under a prong."

What I''m trying to say: the stones you picked had a lot to do with the feedback you got. Most people who pick H stones want assurances that it appears white (which they told you), and there aren''t typically a lot of assurances needed for an E/VS stone other than cut (light performance), which they also told you.

Sounds like you picked two winners - now it''s just a matter of what your tolerances are. If the H is pleasing to your eye, it''s likely a better value. If you''re color sensitive, then the E is a good selection.

Al, I like that advice....seems prudent.
