online diamonds - approximate shipping charges?

Quick question,
What do the shipping charges for small stones (about a 1/2 carat) or those stones in a setting usually run. I am wondering both for the online sellers who charge the shipping and for those who will subtract original shipping from the refund amount if the gem is not acceptable. I imagine that means I would end up paying shipping there and back. What would that run? Are there any other costs if an online diamond is not what you had hoped? Which vendors here are most accomadating about that?

Other companies policies may differ, but this is how my deal was handled.

I had 2 diamonds shipped to me to preview, and I picked one of them to keep. White Flash was going to make the jewelry item for me, so I shipped both diamonds back. The cost for USPS Insured Registered Mail was a bit less than $20. White Flash refunded all but $25 of the purchase price of the diamond I did not choose. Evidently it costs the WF about $25 to ship FedEx Overnight, Insured.

So, the cost would be a total of $45, or so, if you decide not to keep the diamond.
