I am very nervous about making such an investment online. Is there a list of online diamond retailers that are the most reputable and deal with highest quality products?

We bought my diamond from Whiteflash and they were great! Honestly after all of the feedback I read on here about them, I didn''t have any doubts with my purchase.

or...where are you located?

you have to check different sites and get them to disclose thier bank officers name and phone number, ask them for phone numbers of appraisers that they have been working with (independent appraisers not house appraisers)
until you feel comfortable!!!

Good luck

What about Solomon Brothers Jewelry www.solomonbrothers.com?

I''ve read good things about them on this forum. I am thinking about working with them. My first contact with them (yesterday) went well, they were polite and seem to want to find me what I''m looking for.

I would strongly recommend usacerteddiamonds, Martin is a great guy to work with, and very honest. I gave him a tough time with my inexperience and low budget and he was there for me all the way. I ultimately chose him because of price & he actually allowed me to interface directly with the diamond suppliers in NYC since I live there. I plan on writing up about my diamond hunt adventures in detail soon!

I think online buying is great, but one thing I learned is you need to see the stone. Unless you are spending 20K (or, at least a high proportional budget) on a stone with perfect attributes, you need to look at as many stones as possble to figure out what you want or don''t want. I tried Abazias first, but they don''t allow you to see the stone with their NYC suppliers so the stone had to be shipped to me via insured mail, and I had to ship it back via insured mail (cost me about $70 both ways) and the supplier is about 40 city blocks from where I live! Not a very economical way to shop if I lose $70 everytime I decide not to keep a stone. Of course I lucked out living in NYC. I did try to do some brick&mortar stores and was immediately turned off. This of course, does not mean all B&M''s are bad, but besides dealing with sales people who only want the big budget sales, the B&M''s I researched just couldn''t get prices down to compare with online shopping. In most cases, the difference was quite high.

I''d also take a look at www.superbcert.com -- they are very helpful and have pretty stones.

I second USA Certed. I got my diamond from there and I couldn''t be happier.

Hi, Airborne,

My whole family lives in Columbia, although I live in NC now! I searched for months before finally buying a diamond for our anniversary. I bought through Good Old Gold. I have 100% confidence in Jonathan, the gemologist there. He has very fine quality stones, and you can see so much info on them on the website. When I was looking, I asked about a more expensive stone than the one we were considering. And he encouraged me to choose the less expensive stone because it had the features I wanted and was simply a better buy. So I know he has the customer''s interest at heart.

Even if you don''t buy through them, do read through the section on the 4 C''s. There are excellent pictures there that really help understand cut, color, and clarity.
