Online - Better to order setting with diamond?

Is it better to order the setting with the diamond? What are the benefits / drawbacks? Differences between vendors such as WF, GOG, and BN?

Positive is if you order them at the same place, then you will have less shipping charges and no need to buy insurance for the stone during the setting.

Negative is it will probably limit your choices of either the available settings or stones of the store, depending on which you find first...

You will see on some of WF''s settings, that there is a note saying that the setting will not be shipped without a diamond in it, so very often regardless of which vendor you choose, it can be easier for various reasons to get the diamond set from the vendor you purchase it from.

Definitely better to order the diamond and the setting from the same vendor. Two thumbs up for GOG...they will give you the best service...tell Jon that Tim A. sent you...and all the best!

i agree it usually is better to buy the setting and diamond in the same place if possible. it will save you $. The diamond vendor will insure the stone while it''s being set into one of their settings. If you purchase a setting elsewhere they will charge a setting fee and may or may not agree to insure the stone. pearlmans is the only vendor I know of who will insure a stone not purchased from them into one of their settings (at least this used to be their policy).

My boyfriend purchased the diamond from ERD and they paid for shipping to our custom jeweler. The diamond is insured under ERD until it got to our custom jeweler. Once it is in the hands of the custom jeweler, the diamond is now covered under her.
