my boyfriend and i are looking for an engagement ring. i''ve been doing tons of research and we''ve gone to try on a bunch of rings. i originally thought i wanted a really ornate vintage/estate setting and wasn''t so concerned with the stone. after trying them on i''m now leaning towards a simple setting with a nice stone. we''ve found a mark patterson setting that i like but we''d like to buy the diamond online for selection and savings.
i''m looking for about a carat. asscher cut. not hung up on the royal asscher - i think i even like the non-branded ones better. i''ve been looking at f and g''s and vs1 and vs2.
have yet to decide on the florescence debate. seems i''ll just have to see if i like it or not.
i''ve found some online through bluenile.com and dirtcheapdiamonds.com that are in our price range (about 4k for the stone) but i''ve found ones on ebay far lower. they are certified (some egl and some gia) and seem to be exactly the same quality but far cheaper. of course i''d go with a seller with a return policy.
i want to make sure i''m not overlooking anything.
any help with other sellers or ebay reviews would be great!

I would be careful with ebay - many unhappy posters here. If you do a thread search you will see prior bad experiences

First off, welcome Raegan1215!

Although I have not purchased from any of the PS Vendors, I know any PS vendor will be great to work with in terms of quality, cost, and customer satisfaction. And as a PS member, you might get discounts for linking through this site (someone correct me if I am wrong).

If you plan to buy online from EBay, I would recommend go to a seller that has many possitive feedbacks. Make sure you read all of the negative feedbacks to see why the buyer was not happy. This is especially true if they are selling a high priced item at drastic discount. Also, make sure you know what to do in the event of a dispute. I try to purchase things on my credit card instead of paypal since my credit card company doesn''t put up a fight when I dispute charges.

what should i be looking for in gld, table and depth? how do i know if they are ideal cuts?

A lot of people have been happy with Dirt Cheap Diamonds which is now James Allen. With asschers you want to talk to the people at James Allen for their recommendations. I have heard they are very helpful. GOG is very good with asschers. You want someplace who can assess an asscher and know what the cut details are. They are not the same as rounds. I have a beautiful asscher that I got through Whiteflash. It''s a H and its perfect for me. Some might not be happy with an H in an asscher but I get compliments all the time. It was worth being able to up in size.
