I can''t believe it''ll be a year this coming Monday since we got married -- WOW, does the time fly!!

We saved the top tier in the freezer, so do you have any advice on the best way to go about thawing a cake that''s been frozen for a year? Have any of you done this and actually had the cake not taste horrible?

Thanks!!

You know what? We never ate ours!!! It''s actually in my parents'' freezer. I''m going there this weekend and I think my mom still has it but it''s been a year and a half now. I have no advice but anxious to hear what others say!

we kept ours and actually attempted to eat it, but it didn''t survive the year in the deep freeze and ended up with a bad case of freezer burn...

I think it would be fun to try it...but I''d have something yummy to eat as backup just in case you''re disappointed. At least take a photo with it!

Happy Anniversary Ella! I can''t believe it''s been a year already!!!

Ellaila,
Since you are pregnant, I would NOT advise you to eat it. You don''t want to get a tummy ache.

I''ve never done it myself as I''ve never heard of such a tradition but even if I did keep it, I still would not do so unless I am feeling particularly adventurous. I guess it depends also on how well it''s been kept in the freezer. Unless sealed properly, it''ll most likely suffer freezer burns.

we had a mini matching cake made by our hawaii baker and shipped over for our first anniversery, it was way better than hoping that the cake made it in our freezer, definitely wasn''t going to happen, freezer burn is always imminent at our house!!

Couldn''t bring ourselves to try it. Ten years later,it''s still in our freezer

My best friend said hers was terrible, but it''s good luck to take and bite...nothing a little IceCream can''t fix..hahah

We ate ours! Ours was frozen correctly. All decorations removed, and the cardboard was wrapped in foil. Then it was multilayered in plastic wrap and foil. I was told to pull it out of the freezer that morning and unwrap it. Then put it on your cake plate and let it thaw on the counter.

It was delicious!!

I made my sister''s wedding cake and her anniversary is coming up soon, too! So, on 9-23, I''ll be able to tell you how that one thaws!!

PS. Supposedly, the reason for keeping the top tier of the cake was for your first child''s christening, which used to come within the first year of marriage. Then, because people weren''t having children right away, it''s been adapted for the first anniversary.

My baker had a deal, if you gave her 1 professional shot of your cake for her cake design portfolio album thingie (only had to be a 4x6) she''d give you a free "copy" of your topper for your 1st anniversary...soooooo romantic!!! So ours was nummy.

No one ever croaked from freezer burn...I used to love the crystals that formed on the icecream lid. Strange kid. But I turned out ok. Hey...stop that. I heard you!!

We didn''t save ours. We actually ate it the next day with my family. How romantic! But we were flying home and it was after all those crazy no gels/liquids/high alert phase so I figure it wasn''t worth it. If they would have made us throw it away I would have been so sad (b/c it was SOOOO good). Let us know what you decide to do.

Well, it was my mom's birthday a few days after the wedding so we ate it for her birthday. I wouldn't eat it especially since you are preggo; I don't want you to get sick. Go buy a cake or something you love! Happy Anniversary!!!!!

Well, I was planning to...But, I happen to loooooove cake. Ours was deeeeelicious! It was packaged and frozen. After our honeymoon we came home and ate it! Or I should say, I ate it. It didn''t taste too bad on our 1 week anniversary.

We went back to the bakery a year later and bought a small cake with the same flavors. Didn''t even bother to freeze some from the wedding.

Wow, I never even gave it a thought that I''d get sick from eating the cake! I love cake so much that I can''t imagine it''d ever be bad to me

But we are going to our wedding place on Sunday, so maybe we could stop by our bakery and get a little somethin-somethin that day as backup just in case our cake has gone ickypoo in the last year.

Thanks guys!

We had a bite of ours, and I don''t think it had freezer burn, but it tasted funny. Kind of sour??? It''s been a long time, I don''t remember exactly.

Hey, today''s MY 18th wedding anniversary! Can you imagine how it would taste if we had it in the freezer that long? OH DEAR!

I was SOOOO tempted. I love cake, too.

hehe, we did have a little morsel of ours. i have to admit that it looked rather unappetizing because the cream got smushed in when i put it in the tiny freezer space, but it tasted like the day of our wedding.

We tried ours; the cake was fine but the frosting was nasty.

Happy Anniversary Today!!!! I hope you had a wonderful day celebrating Sunday!!!

Aww, thanks, Skippy!! I can''t believe it''s been a year -- so much has changed since then! We''ve moved to the burbs and are pregnant with twins -- neither one of those was on our radar last year at this time, that''s for sure! But it''s been a fantastic & amazing year

We didn''t make it down to Newport yesterday after all, so tonight we''re going to a lovely historic inn for dinner and then next weekend we''re going to go to Newport for brunch at our venue

I plan on trying at least a bite of the cake tonight just for the romance/symbolism of it, but I''m really not too into the idea of eating year-old anything to be honest. I don''t even like leftovers after a day or two, so 365-day-old cake ... hmmm.

Happy Anniversary Ella!!!

We ate ours and it was great! I hope you have the same luck!

Thanks, njc!!

Update: we tried the cake tonight (we were too full after our big dinner last night, plus the inn gave us a little cake as a gift for dessert), and ... it was delicious!!!! It tasted so fresh and yummy -- we couldn''t believe it! I guess those million layers of plastic wrap and foil really did the trick

Happy one year anniversary ellaila! That''s great that your cake still tasted good! We didn''t bother saving our wedding cake. I knew it would taste gross. The bakery isn''t far so we could always just order another cake if we wanted to.

YEAH!!! Glad it was yummy! IT is amazing how good it is, isn''t it? Just like you put in away yesterday.
