Hi there,

I''ve been poking around the forum for about a month and have enjoyed reading all of the posts. I have always dreamed of owning a Tiffany setting, but a recent trip to the Toronto (Canada) Tiffany''s left me feeling rather sad. My fiance and I have a $10,000 budget. I thought this would purchase a really substancial diamond...not so. In order to buy a 1.00-1.10 carat classic tiffany setting with a G, VS1 diamond I would need apx. $16,000. Unfortunately this is out of our price range.

So this is where I found renewed hope! I came across the WF setting in a number of posts and it is just lovely!

Would anyone have recent pictures of the setting? Or even the setting with a 1ct. diamond?

Also I would like it to be proportioned as closely as possible to the Tiffany setting. Are there specific proportions or measurements I would need to give them? I know people talk of having it altered and requesting specific changes.

Thank you all so very much!

Hey! You can't go wrong with the WF tiffany replica solitaire setting. They are beautiful!! It can't be exactly the same as tiffany's due to copyright laws, but it looks exactly like it. If you are looking for the Channel set Tiffany replicas, then excell diamonds makes an incredible replica.

Just do some searches on here and show me the ring forums to find pictures. That is your best option...

good luck, as I went through the same problem and purchased from excell diamonds. My FIs ring is stunning!!!

Just remember in you finances, that you WILL have to pay customs and GST on the ring.

Thank you both for your quick reply!

I have one more question - I know many people seam to think the SuperbCert ring is a better replica than the WF. But those posts are older and WF redesigned the ring. Is this still the case? Which one is the closest replica to the Tiffany setting. I know, I know...it makes no sense but I''ve wanted that darn ring since I was like 15!!! So I really want to get as close as possible.

Again thank you for those that reply!

The one I linked above is the current WF Tiffany setting because PrincessDijon recieved it Jan 2009. Where are you buying the diamond from? I don''t think WF sells that setting without purchasing a diamond from there too.

Hi KittyBling!

I''ve been emailing with a WF rep and would really like to get my diamond from them as their prices seem really fair. I''m going to have to look into duty as I think it may be expensive to have the ring brought into Canada. I''m excited though as for 10K you can get a nice 1 carat diamond & setting...that would buy me a glass vase at Tiffanys. JK.

I''m just wondering one thing - do you think the quality of the platinum and craftsmanship of the setting is high end? You read these horror stories of porosity and flimsy prongs and it worries me. Also do you know if the Superbcert (Excel) setting is better? The WF one just looked really sturdy to me.

Incidentally if you went from a G to an I, that would shave quite a bit off of the Tiffany''s price... though maybe not quite enough to get to your budget

Whiteflash is also an excellent choice, a friend of mine (also Canadian) recently bought from them and was very satisfied, as many other people here have been as well.

Whiteflash has excellent customer service and will make sure it is up to your specifications. As for is it "high end" that is quite subjective it depends on what you want. They are very high quality but the designs are done using a CAD in most cases and not hand made. I think given your budget you will be very happy with the quality of the work and they will keep you involved every step of the way. WF price/value is excellent and you get a good return policy and the prices although not the cheapest are very competitive. I would not hesitate to call Bob Hoskins at WF he is very friendly, patient and very knowledgeable. If having a ring made make sure you provide them with pictures of exactly what you want or choose one of their settings on the site if you do that and follow the design process I think you will be very happy.

There are other custom designers that would be considered "high end" like Mark Morell and Leon Mege that work by hand and produce extremely detailed and delicate pieces but you pay a premium for their services and they will not hold your hand like WF will in every step of the process.

I am also a Canadian and I can tell you for loose stones or jewlery there is no duty, however you will have to pay GST and depending on your province of residence PST as well.

If all you want is the 6 prong or 4 prong classic tiffany setting I have no trouble recommending WF as this is a really easy setting to duplicate. You should specify how delicate you want the prongs to be holding the diamond, the thickness of the band etc. but this setting is really quite easy to do and there stock design is probably very similar to a Tiffany one already.

For something like this I would not even consider buying this at Tiffany''s as my sister got the 6 prong setting from a wholsaler here in Montreal and I probably could not tell the difference between it at an actual Tiffany ring. No blue box but thats about it.

I have even seen in Montreal (and we have lousy selection) good copies of the Tiffany Legacy. If you read other threads here in PS Tiffany rings are mass produced and have quality issues, they certainly are not what I would call "high end" quality like Harry Winston or a Leon Mege ring.

Good-luck,

CCL

Are you opposed to pre-owned? You could get a tiffany that way. Here are a few I found.

here is one

and another

Thanks for all of the reply''s...I really appreciate people taking the time to lend a hand

Stephanie - Ok, I really hope people''s opinions of me don''t take a nose dive here...but I would really love a ring that is new and not pre-owned. It''s a great idea though, I just have a weird stigma attached to wearing someone else''s ring. Maybe for my second marriage...Kidding!

Mr. T - I admit I would love the Tiffany''s setting since I feel like I know exactly what it looks like and what I will be getting. I took your advice and called Tiffany''s today to ask about an I coloured diamond. They told me I could get a 1 carat, I colour, SI clarity for $11,000. I asked the lady if there would be a big colour difference between a G and an I and she said "yes, it will not look nearly as clean". Well that''s discouraging! LOL. But I wonder if maybe an I is still pretty clear and shiny, has anyone ever seen an I and a G side by side?

CCL - I''m just in Ottawa...we''re sort of neighbours.

It is the classic six prong solitaire knife edge I covet. Ok, if there are any border officers on this site...don''t read on! I thought about flying to Texas on air miles to Whiteflash, paying cash for the ring, and wearing it home (I would just mail all the paperwork and box to myself). 1. All of this was to save the duty fees - do you think it would work in theory and practice? 2. Is there really no duty just tax...because that would be great and would save me a trip to Texas? 3. Is there any chance you would have a pic of your sisters ring?

Thanks again! I''m so happy I found this forum

I believe that if you buy it in Texas (rather than having it shipped to you from Texas), you will have to pay 8.25% Texas sales tax at the time of purchase.

I don''t think you''ll have any problems going with WF. From everything I''ve read here they seem to produce very good quality items so you wouldn''t really have a problem there.
As for your other question I would personally go for the Superbcert setting because it seems closer to the original one. Since you like the Tiffany setting you really should take a look at Mark Morrell as some of the other posters have suggested.
