One last question before i make the big purchase tomorrow. My price range was no higher than $4400 for a loose stone, but a few people recommended a diamond that was higher. I didn''t really want to spend that much, but if the difference between say the $5,300 and $4,100 is definitely worth the cost please let me know or the $ 4,800 vs the $5,300 diamond. I have read and read and read everything i could about the 4 C''s and many other topics to try to be an educated consumer. Hopefully i haven''t asked too many stupid questions

... anyway before i lay out this much money i thought i''d ask a final time from anyone who wishes to respond about these stones. I very much appreciate all of you guys/gals in here that have taken the time to help me out. I really want to make sure that i get a great diamond at a fair price.
($5300) (http://www.jamesallen.com/diamond.asp?cid=131&item=861720)
($4100) (http://www.jamesallen.com/diamond.asp?cid=130&module=diamond&item=802139)
($4800) (http://www.jamesallen.com/diamond.asp?cid=130&item=835436)

Again thanks all for all the help

I am SO not a diamond expert....just a jewelry consumer...so my opinions are probably worth what you have to pay for them!

If I were going to pick...and couldn't see all three next to each other, I'd want to hear the vendor's thoughts on all three...and hear their differences.

With marquise, one of my biggest concerns would be the "bow tie" effect...I'd want the one with the least obvious one....and I'd want the one that was most sparkly/brilliant.

As long as it's eyeclean, I personally wouldn't even concern myself about the color/clarity grades. All the stones you're considering are "white".

If one of the stones is obviously more brilliant and has the least obvious 'bow tie', I'd go for that one....even if it was the costliest. If it's a draw, I'd take the $4100 H, SI-1 without thinking twice.

Just my amateur opinion!!!!

No need to rush...

So you got an Ideal Scope and Sarin on the G VS2? And the lab reports on the other two?

sorry what is a sarin and ideal scope? I dont know how to get that? I''ve requested the lab report on the H Si1, but it has not come in to me yet. The other one has the report attached i believe? Correct me if i''m wrong. I apologize i am a newbie :) .. i plan on going away to propose with my girlfriend on sept. 1st so i thought this would be enough time to get everything together prior to the trip. Thanks for all the help i really appreciate it

Email JA. From the Sarin, I want to see the crown height and girdle. From the Ideal Scope, I just want to see if there's excessive leakage, and there's this black area I want to check to see if it returns light.

Can't really say anything about the other two you picked, other than they have good numbers.

The only other stone I'd consider from the ones they have pictures posted is: http://www.jamesallen.com/diamond.asp?cid=131&item=861670, although I would want a Sarin to check the crown height and an Ideal Scope to check light return as usual, as well as the rather prominent bowtie in the picture.

Josh wrote a really nice overview here: https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/marquise-cut.25337/=

With a fancy cut it is so important to be able to try to see the actual diamond to decide what is beautiful, I wonder if Jim might have pics available of each one he could email you? Then you could get an idea of shape and length - width ratio to actually see more about how each diamond performs and their ''personalities''. Trust your eyes above all.

Here is the report for the D/SI1 for $4800 -

I was able to get the SARIN Report for the D SI1. I wont be able to get the Ideal Scope done because they said it would cost money and it would be later this week before i could get it... Since i need to order it today i''m kind of limited there. I need to have the diamond in hand by Wednesday next week (29Aug06)... Anyway here is the Sarin
what do yo u all think?

Sarin looks good, it's great by the numbers, but I'd need a picture at least before I would buy.

Thank you Julie you have been a great help. I am trying to see if i can get the picture. Hopefully i can. Regardless i will order it today and then if it turns out to not be that great than i will return it within 30 days. Hopefully i can get the ideal scope done as well. Again thank you all for the help especially you Julie

V/r,

Yup, I was just thinking, you could return it if it doesn't have a nice shape or it has a bad bowtie. Good luck!

Although, I also thought you could propose with the matching wedding band...

Something unexpected kind of happened... i was getting ready to finalize the purchase and i mentioned to him that once i get it i will definitely have it appraised again and that i needed it by next wednesday... anyway after i said that he said to hold on a sec while he calls the place he was getting the diamond from and make sure they have it... anyway he comes back on a few minutes later and says that they do however, he has some bad news.. i guess him and his coworker started looking at the Sarin report and now think that they might have given me the wrong one... because the table/depth were pretty far off on the sarin then the diamond that i was supposed to be getting... so anyway i held off on the purchase for the moment while he resolves it and checks to be sure he got the correct report... he believes he did, but maybe they didn''t "reset" the machine?? i gave him the benefit of the doubt because i trust the people here who recommended james allen... anyway he is supposed to get back with me tomorrow with whatever he finds out... what do you all think? i hope to either get confirmation on the sarin or at least a revised sarin to share with you all tomorrow... i hope this is not a problem because of the short time frame.. i should have ordered this a couple of weeks ago, but i thought if i could save a little more money and as long as i gave them more than 10 days i should be okay.. now i realize that was not a good idea at all...if i get it i will now most definitey get it appraised just to be on the safe side

you have plenty of time, don''t worry.
