I don''t think you can lose with either stones as long as the SI1 stone is eyeclean. Personally, I''d take the eyeclean SI1 stone and use the extra $300 you save towards the setting.

I spoke with someone at WF and the SI stone is eye clean.

I doubt anyone can offer much help since they are so similar other than clarity. Did you just ask WF if the SI1 was eye-clean, or did you ask them to do a side-by-side comparison? Assuming that comes out as a toss-up as well, I think you just have to ask yourself would you rather have a cert that says VS2 or would you rather have $300?

Two more comments: I think most of what I've read suggests that that difference in size is imperceptible. But if you have fun reading about this stuff (or really want to drive yourself nuts), you might do a search on lgf% (the lower girdle number). The 74.5 on one of the stones is a hair less than most ACA I've seen. I think most people would tell you don't sweat that minutia though. The difference is most likely imperceptible for average joes like us.

Buy both and make them into studs?

Seriously, they are so similar... There''s no way that a few hundreths of a mm difference in diameter would be noticeable. Slightly longer lower half on the VS2, and the arrows do look a bit thinner to me, so maybe consider that. Does one speak to you more than the other or just feel right? If not, I would probably save the $300, personally. Though I agree with you that it''s not a huge price to pay for the extra clarity, if you want a little bit of mind-cleanliness.

What impact would thinner arrows have on the diamond overall?

With the minimal difference between these two, probably not much. Some feel that fatter arrows make the center of the stone look a little dark in certain lighting conditions. But in real-life wear the arrows will never be as dark and bold as in these static, high-magnification pictures, unless you're specifically trying to recreate the effect. Any impact on performance is much less of an issue than simply whether thinner or thicker arrows appeal more to you visually.

ETA you can search for lower girdle %, lower half, etc. to find lots of discussion and some controversy on this issue.

Both stones are very lovely, you really can''t go wrong here. If WF said the SI stone is clean, I would get that one since it''s cheaper and will face up as large as the other one. Put the extra money towards your setting or wedding band.

Thanks all for your comments. I really wish they had a stone in the .88 or so range, because the next largest ACA they have is .9+ and is over $5300.

I can justify spending more on a stone to get a larger one, just not $2K more.

They also said their inventory won''t change again until August.

That''s interesting, I didn''t realize that smaller lgf% made the arrows look bigger, if I understand you correctly dmf00. My reading of the lgf% threads does suggest that smaller numbers produce fewer, larger bursts of light, and the larger numbers produce more numerous smaller bursts. The 77 is considered balanced. Read up on it yourself aakk.

Yes, one effect of varying lower girdle % is on arrow thickness:
