Once you upgrade, is it enough?

Hi Pricescopers,

I feel that only you guys can understand my grief. When I finally have the courage to tell someone about my issue of how I feel about my ring, everyone thinks that I am crazy and that my ring is beautiful and I should love it. However, I often have too many thoughts that I wish I went slightly larger. I currently have a 0.83 center, but I believe it looks smaller than that because the prongs are not dainty. I already asked the jeweler to take off as much as possible, but because there are diamonds along the side, it still looks rather hefty from the top view.

So my question is... for those who finally got an upgrade, were you finally satisfied with the result? Or after the upgrade, do you keep wanting a larger diamond? Please offer honest opinions. Part of me thinks that I want to pay the extra money so I can be happy with my ring and I will stop stressing and worrying. Another part of me thinks that I will just always keep wanting something nicer so it doesn''t matter what I do now.

Please help!

At first, I had the upgrade fever, but now I love the size of my stones. They are perfect for me. I''m not doing more upgrades--but more rings? Different cuts?? YAH!!

My first e-ring was 0.82 ct and I had it for 5 years before bf decided to upgraded to 1.20 ct.. After having it for 2 years, he decided again to upgraded to 1.50ct...

I guess I should never say never but I think this last upgrade is it. It''s big but not too big [2.52cts] and it''s different enough that I''m totally happy and the best part is that my hubby loves it too. I''m satisfied and can''t imagine ever changing it. That doesn''t mean I wouldn''t ever get a new blingy RHR.

I upgraded from a 1.53 to a 2.36 and while I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to upgrade again, to say a honkin'' 3.5''er, the darn reality is that just AIN''T GONNA HAPPEN!!! So, I am trying hard (am am frequently even succeeding!) to be content and happy with the lovely stone I have. I find myself thinking of it more often as my "forever stone".

And, like MMM says, it does help to get a different obsession! Right now I am planning a major kitchen remodel and that is gonna take a lot of cha-ching cha-ching cha-change!!! Something like that can really take some of the ITCH out of the relentless-diamond-upgrade-fever, believe me!

I don't think I will be upgrading any time soon. I went through quite an ordeal to get to my upgrade. Althought I really like the final result, I had enough diamond shopping to last me a lifetime

I just upgraded my stone. I now have a 2.38 . I can honestly say that I am very happy with this size stone and can''t imagine going any bigger. I think I would feel a bit funny and even when I wear this one, I feel a bit funny. I was at the nail salon the other day and my manicurist grabbed my hand and asked me why did I need a diamond that big and I realized that was a really good question actually, why do I need a diamond this big, or bigger for that matter?

I would like a pear one day though, but that''s not for a while. For now, I am completely happy with my stone.

I have a 2.06 and would dearly love something closer to 3.5 - 4.0 carats. I "hope" I would be thrilled to stop there, but honestly it would be finances that would limit me to 4 carats more than any sense of restraint

I''m done. But, mine is also 3.55 ct (in a halo too), so anything bigger would look truly gaudy on my small paws. (This one looked stoopid-big to me when I got it but now it seems perfectly normal... but it''s never seemed small!) I had never, ever planned on having such a large stone but it was one of those once-in-a-lifetime finds. I don''t honestly think I would want a larger stone for everyday wear- this one is set low and protected, and it''s fine, but I can tell its about the max size before I would be bashing it into stuff all the time; plus, I don''t really love the look of a round much larger than 3.5 cts... on me, anyway.

I had a .25 cttw antique wedding set that I was married with- that set totally fell apart after 7 years of wear, so I got a 1.22 ct OEC as an upgrade. I loved it but it was just small looking to me after a couple of years of wearing various sims that were larger. Then we found the 3.55 ct OEC; the original plan was buying it to resell but heh, just try peeling something like that off your finger once it''s installed...

I''d say if you''re really jonesing for size, drop the color as much as you can stand, maybe get an antique stone because they look great in lower color grades, and get an SI clarity. My 1.22 ct was an N color OEC and my 3.55 is an M, and though they aren''t icy white or anything, neither is icky or really even yellow, mostly just soft ivory, and if they sparkle like crazy, that''s all most people notice. I wouldn''t trade either for a D if I could.

I had a 1 ct. stone for 30 years and then got a beautiful 1.63. I do not have the slightest desire for a larger stone. My stone is larger than most of my friends at this point, and I would never want to appear ostentatious. I have never, ever used the word upgrade to my husband. The new rings were for our anniversary. I still have my original rings and these are my anniversary rings. I do not think he would have appreciated the idea of upgrading what he originally gave me, but he was very happy to get me a new diamond for our anniversary and even chose the larger of two we had sent for to look at.

My husband could not REMOTELY comprehend my desire to upgrade. However, now that I have my dream stone I am done and my husband really appreciates and loves my ring too. However there is a key element to the upgrading process that was defintely a factor for me and i do believe for many here. I think there are two types of "upgrades" and sometime they occur simultaneously and sometimes as separate events. 1) upgrading quality and 2)upgrading size.

My first stone was a very poor quality 3 carat EC. I kind of knew it from the get-go but then became obsessed with learning, bought books and eventually found pricescope. My goal then was a better stone of the same size. Which I got. Then once I knew what i was doing I wanted a bigger and better stone. I now have a great stone and I love the size and I seriously doubt I would ever bother even if money was no object.

I upgraded from a .30ish to a 1.40 (after 24 years). I''m totally happy, and don''t need/want anything bigger. It''s a perfect size for me.

I upgraded from a .18 to 1.01 after 20 years, would I like to upgrade again? yes I would, my princess is pre pricescope and I would love to have a better cut round diamond in about the 1.5 range, will I upgrade...I doubt it, money just doesnt allow for that luxury. I hopefully will upgrade my wedding band for my 25th anniversay next year, but we shall see where my finances are at that time.

I am one of the lucky ones that my husband truly understands my jewelry obsession. After all, he has an electronics obsession and upgrades quite often. He is currently eyeing a 65" LCD TV. It''s too bad we don''t have a room big enough for that puppy!

I`ve upgrade once so far (from a .29 to a .43). Not a huge deal but you have to remember that upgrading is all about the resources available at the time of the upgrade. At that time, that was all we could afford.

There is no doubt in my mind that I will upgrade again. I`m all for upgrading!!

Some take flying leaps and some take baby steps. I`m the latter.

As far as how hubby feels about my desires, he`s on board and I know that if we could afford it, that upgrade would be sooner rather than later.

Good luck to you. A .83 is certainly nothing to laugh at! Mabye just a change of setting does the trick....

I have upgraded from .55 to .72 to 1.03.

I originally planned on going bigger again. Till I got my last diamond. I fell in love with it. I really do think its the most beautiful thing ever! I had a little wobble recently but again realised I want to keep this diamond forever.

I think I am more likely to just buy another diamond than upgrade this one.

My husband isn''t bothered what I do as long as I wear a ring on my wedding finger!
