I've noticed that there are some very nice diamonds, of good values that have been sitting around in PS's preferred vendor's (WhiteFlash, James Allen, etc) for almost two years. The Certs are dated 2004. All the C's look great, HCA and so do the ideal scopes, and at decent prices.

Is there a reason why these stones would be unsold for so long? In fact, based on old postings, they have been mentioned a few times over the years.

The only thing that I can come up with is that maybe people have overlooked them because they are undersized diamonds, points under an 'ideal' round number i.e. .95, 1.20, 1.47.

I see that most of these companys buy back diamonds, is it possible that these are second hand?

Am I just wasting time, fees and shipping costs on something that different people might have returned over the years?

Hard to say where those stones have been hanging for a couple years. I often have wondered this same thing - e.g, when I see a stone with an older cert, what the heck has it been doing all it''s life? I looked at one for sale in Costco and the cert was four years old. What has it been doing for the past four years????

I wouldn''t think a traded in stone was any worse than any other, provided it had no damage. Once it is out of the old setting, it''s a brand new stone as far as I''m concerned. But Costco certainly doesn''t take trade ins. Hard to explain the old certs.

They almost all have trade ins regraded with new reports.
That protects them against claims of damage since the original report was issued and other liability issues.

I asked a couple vendors about this a long time ago and they pretty much said they cant explain it, some stones fly off the shelf while others that are just as good and in demand sit there for a year or 2 before they find someone to love em.

Maybe these are great deals as they are the same price as they were 2 years ago. Maybe there were better values then, but with the higher prices today, they are worth looking at. I've ordered one of them, 1.20 E VS2 AGS-0 for $8900, to see what I find.

It could be a mental thing that people think that there's something wrong with it, and that's why it's been available for so long. Kind of similar to that last new car on the lot at the end of a model year. People think that all of the good ones were already picked. Hopefully it's not figuratively like that kid that gets picked last at kick-ball. There's a reason for that one (Sorry to those of you who were, I was there sometimes too).
