Hi,

I went to a local vendor the other day and he was very nice and has a good reputation around the area. However, the diamonds that he showed me had the old GIA certificate (e.g. no cut grade).

He says that they are all "ideal" or close to "ideal" but I am having difficulty determining if his prices are competitive without this information.

I believe from reading these boards that a Sarin analysis would be helpful, but he e-mailed me back saying that he does not have these tools.

Is there any other way that I can determine cut grade/proportions so that I can accurately compare prices?

Thanks.

Does he have table/depth percentages? Crown and pavilion angles?

how old are the reports? you can check on the gia site to see if there is more information on these diamonds using http://www.gia.edu/reportcheck/
Thanks for the link. The certs are from 2004 and 2005 so I was able to validate the information that I saw on the certificate, but since these are the older certifiicates it just has depth, table, girdle, culet, measurement, and polish/symmetry information but no pavilion/crown angle (e.g. so can''t run a HCA on it).
