Hi everybody,
I'm looking for a "work" ering. I'm in healthcare and just want an inexpensive small stone that I don't really have to worry about getting damaged. I love old cuts and would like to get a nice vintage piece. I found a ring I think is adorable and wanted some help evaluating the cut. I'm just interested to see if anyone sees any glaring problems and your overall opinion. Some of the pics are at slight angles, but they're cropped so it's hard to tell. It's around 5mm.

Oh, and it looks like an OEC not an old mine, but I'm not an expert.

I don't see any major problems. One thing I notice is the absence of kozibe, and the crown seems to be on the flatter side, so possibly it is a bit shallow. But if the price is right, it could be an enjoyable stone. I guess the emphasis is on "price is right." I just looked over the photos again, and there may be an inclusion right under the table. I wish the pics were a bit less washed out.

Thanks Gemfever! The price could definitely be right, but it's an auction so it's impossible to know for sure. I probably wouldn't bid over $500 (the antique solitare it's in is 14k), but it depends on what you guys think. I do love the look of a high crown and tiny table, and this stone doesn't look like that, but I think the facet pattern is pretty and if it's close to an I in color like they state, it would be fairly white as well. I did message the seller asking if there are any inclusions noticeable to the naked eye at 6 inches from the top or side and I asked for more pictures in normal indoor lighting. I also asked if they knew any measurements for the diamond, but I bet they would have included those details if they knew them. Thank you for the feedback!

Staying under $500 sounds like a good plan. I hope the seller can come back with some useful info for you! I always like to message the seller with a question or two to see how responsive he/she is. It's nice to know ahead of time what kind of seller you're dealing with, in case there are issues later (shipping, returns, etc.). I hope this one works out for you!

UPDATE: So the seller responded to me and gave me this information, which I do not know how to interpret. Please help!

Stone's diameter averages 5.1mm
45 points (I didn't ask, but I imagine everything was done while the stone was set since the piece is original to 1910)
The crown height is "approximately .7mm"
The table is 1.9mm in diameter
No eye visible inclusions, one loupe visible white inclusion

Do those measurements give any insight into...anything? If the table is 1.9 and the stone's diameter is 5.1, wouldn't that make the table around 37%? I feel like that's not really possible, but let me know if my math is based on faulty logic. I feel like the crown height doesn't mean anything without the total depth, am I right? So far I'm sticking to my original plan to bid to $500. It's definitely white facing in the pictures, and I do like that. Also, the seller was very nice, responsive, and has a 14 day return policy without any restocking fees or anything.
