And when I don''t go back and read through things on this board before posting them, I see all the typose--too late to do anything.

I promise I know how to spell. Especially meat. Oy.

Here''s another one-
I won the school spelling bee when I was 12 and in 7th grade. I beat 4 8th grade boys to do it too.

Did you remeber what word? I won my 6th grade spelling bee with photosynthesis
16.gif

I can''t comment on the post above it, because I am still trying to recover from lmao at the blunt "your GF is Horror Monster comment...priceless...

Whatever, typos suck, but you''ve seen that exercise where they show you a sentence without any vowels and everyone can figure out the sentence anyway. No typo cops...typos cops are bad.
26.gif

Arc.

WTF? How can you not be able to spell that?

I lost at regionals though.
7.gif

The girl who won, won with amethyst. Yeah.
20.gif

I wanted to kick myself.

Freke that list was awesome! It seems like one of the things we have in common is a dislike of bugs!
36.gif
But I do like pink depression glass! Haha. I just bought two shot glasses at the antique store because I determined every girl needs a pink shot glass, or at least this girl does!

Oh and I totally agree to you about people driving! I spent 5 hours on the road today.
20.gif
Craaazy!

''A dirty station is a dirty mind?'' Dang, I''m screwed, I always have a dirty mind.
31.gif

Oh. Uh, I mean,
12.gif
. Yeah. Totally.

LOL, Gwen--I think that is something several of us have in common!

I like your list, Freke! Also, yay for more pics!

Freke,

I have never heard of a coconut margarita!!!!!!!

Linda

Choro! You''re so sweet!!!
As for Holbrook, I don''t remember really, but if I were back there again, I''d be able to tell you for sure. We ate at the McDonalds that''s maybe a couple of miles down the road.
Driving in Clovis sucks. What''s horrible is that they don''t have any kind of drainage system in that entire area. My suggestions if you HAVE to go: Drive a 4 wheel drive vehicle that''s lifted, bring lots of water, food and buckets, wear shorts or pants that can be rolled up and flip flops you don''t mind getting ruined. This advice comes from a person who attempted to drive with a friend to Portales after summer monsoon season. Directly after summer monsoon season. 3-4 feet of water on the roads-driving through them in a minivan. The air filter go soaked, the engine died, and we almost got stuck in Portales overnight. Bad bad bad.

Goldfish cracker ideas: Um. Baked chicken in cheese sauce with broccoli with cheese crackers on top! Or I like to make "fried" chicken by rolling the chicken in flour, then milk, eggs or a combo, and then instead of bread crumbs-crunched up cheese crackers. Toss them on a pan, drizzle a little oil over it-and bake until cooked through. I like to do this with unsweetened cereal. Yum. But add cheese crackers? Dude. I''m about it. I don''t think it''s ghetto at all!!!!

I have to watch 27 dresses. Everyone talks about it. I wonder if it''s on pay per view...I wonder if BF would notice an extra $5 charge on the cable bill...hmmm...

Gwen!! I should do it. I will do it. And I do write down all of my recipes-not to mention type some of them into PS. Some of them are in my head also. I dunno. I like to make up recipes, and can pretty much look at any old recipe and make it better. One thing I''d like to do with it is to have multiple types of measurements on there. So instead of either being in either weight measurements or volume measurements (depending on what kind of cook is making them-home versus professional) they would be in both. I always feel horrible typing up recipes for everyone in the cupcake thread in weight measurements, but I don''t exactly have a lot of time to figure out the volume measurements for the weight measurements. You know? Anyway. I find that cook books are one or the other instead of being both-or even having conversion tables to try and figure it out. So I think that would be nice. And helpful for everyone. The next question would be-savory and sweet or just sweet? And how many recipes? And I would have to have pics. What kind of cookbooks do you like to have?

bee*!!!They are cute and cuddly aren''t they? They look so angelic when they''re sleeping, too bad they''re total terrors when they''re awake. Maybe one day I''ll make a video of them awake and post a link for you guys. lol.

Sarah!! Don''t get me wrong I do love the Depression glass-what I was bummed out about was that friends were going to ask me, "What did you get for your birthday?" and instead of the normal, clothes, CDs, a stereo, or whatever, I''d have to reply, "Depression glass." which most of my friends would not understand at all. PLUS, my mom took all the fun out of it for me. I liked the chase-and finding the pieces myself (I should mention that my mom had a full set of amber depression glass, my aunt buys it and sells it-she''s a depression glass dealer, and my other aunt has some kind of depression glass as well). I found most of her stuff myself, as well as for both aunts. So it was the thrill of the chase, as well as being 16 and stupid. So I cried and got $100 to buy clothes with too. And now the Depression glass is worth a few thousand. Much more worth it than the stupid clothes.

I tried to collect blue martini glasses (so I hear you on the pink shot glasses) but there aren''t a lot out there and my mom accidentally broke one.
7.gif
And now my collection is really depleted because it was only 2 of them at the time. But yay! I have a blue martini glass.

You should come drive in NM. People here are just stupid driving. No turn signals, or they just leave the turn signals on forever, speeding like crazy, cutting people off, etc. It''s bad. And people over 75 shouldn''t be allowed to drive. It''s just not a good idea.

Gwen!!! You naughty monkey!! I have a dirty mind too, as do most culinary people, so lets change it to: A messy station is a messy mind. Which is still silly.

LP!!! I''m missin'' you lady! I can''t wait until you guys get all situated and stuff. (I demand pics of your new place!!!!)

Linda W!!!!Hon, you are missing out! This is where I get them. It''s just a coconut margarita (tequila, coconut milk and shredded coconut, blended with ice) but what makes it for me is that the rim is dipped in honey, and then dipped in toasted coconut shavings and it is TO DIE FOR. Totally yummy. But I love all coconut things, so take that for what it''s worth.

Here is a pic of Dale and I at my best girl friend''s b-day party two years ago. We had gotten caught in a torrential down pour, so we look pretty scraggly. Both of our hair was soaked, and I was wearing my rockin'' CIA sweatshirt that has since been retired (I don''t want to totally destroy it) and my glasses. Which is the point of posting this pic. Besides the fact that it''s one of my favorites of us because I''m goofy and he''s blinking. Which I find to be hilarious, and Dale doesn''t like, but doesn''t care enough to do anything about it. Hee hee hee.

To note: I''m not proof reading the above, and I''d like to apologize in advance for any typos.

And when you make the cookbook, I vote for pictures; I get a special thrill when I make it look like the picture. I stand there with the plate/bowl and the book/magazine and jiggle them at DH going "look, look!".
And he says "uh huh".

So yes, pictures. And I think we have/had two blue martini glasses, I had no idea they were so rare!

Lol Mercoledi!!! I can never find the elusive blue martini glasses. Occasionally Pier One has one or two, but I never buy them (don''t know why).

You had me giggling hysterically there for a bit with your hubby''s comment on food pics. That is so like Dale!!!

I totally have to have some really great pics in it. I love art and photography, and good pictures are essential to good cooking IMHO. Then you at least have some kind of idea of what it supposed to look like. Plus, I am not going to look at a list of ingredients and go "YUM!" But when I see a pic that looks good, I say "YUM!"

This is the major problem I have with The Joy of Cooking.
40.gif

Hmm, I (actually don''t own the joy of cooking) I''ll have to do something about that when yard-sale season ramps up.

I don''t suppose you could recommend some tasty places to eat in Albuquerque? DH is there for 29 hours for a conference and would love some places to get tasty eats and preferably some delicious craft beer. He also gets a pretty generous per diem, so, yeah.

And he doesn''t really care if it looks like the picture, he just wants to eat
18.gif
!

You''re stories are great, thanks for sharing so much! Sorry the spinel didn''t work out, the right one will come along!

When will he be here? And where is he staying? If he''s looking for beer, I''d hit up Kelly''s brewery on Central. They have decent food too. link Ummm...what kind of food does he like? Or maybe the new Nob Hill Bar and Grill link I haven''t been there, but it sounds like a pretty cool place. Or maybe Zinc-they have a wine cellar/bar area downstairslink They''re all on Central.

Stupid spinel being too good to be true. And the mess of the peridot afterwards...Oy.

LOLLOLLOL. Oh jeez. I cannot even tell you how many times a day I have to say, "They should REALLY make old people take a driving test again..." My grandma drives just fine, but there are just too many little old ladies that get in front of me and slam the brakes...or worse.

Then again, even the people my age do that too...we''re screwed.

I''m just thankful I don''t live in Atlanta or LA.

Ooo, thanks for your suggestions! I''ll try it this week.
27 Dresses is not a good movie by any standards. A 5 year old can guess the entire story outcome in the first five minutes. It was still cute, and made some laughs from the dresses :)
I LOVE your glasses! They look perfect on you!

Here''s another question. If you had endless money, what would you do with it? Which is your favorite casino in Vegas?

/commencing mini hijack/

Thanks Freke! He''ll be there late next week, I think they''re staying at the plaza? Does that make sense? He eats everything. He''s really become adventurous over the last few years. So maybe Zinc or Nob Hill for a nice dinner with the boss and Kelly''s for a beer? Anything else you''d recommend for just stellar food?

Good luck with the gem hunt. DJstair has been posting some great stuff in progress, but not yet for sale; I can''t wait for the next ''drop''.

Oh, and I bought These in black. The green is incredible, but I don''t have any green tops and only black suits!

/end hijack/

Now back to more probing questions about Freke...

Lol MP. It''s awful isn''t it? I don''t think that either of my parents should be driving (mom is almost 64 and my dad is 71) because they a) drive too fast b)drive too slow c)don''t pay attention to other drivers d) pay too much attention to other drivers e)don''t use peripheral vision when they aren''t paying 100% attention to the car/other drivers f)etc etc etc.

And it''s so bad that it''s the younger generation doing it too. I saw a piece on Leno last night about people on the phone while driving. Pretty funny stuff.

Choro! You''re description of the movie is pretty much what I expected. FSIL seemed to like it a lot and she''s very much a fluff and no substance kind of movie watcher, so I''m not surprised. I just want to see it for all of the dresses (that yellow one I was stuck in is very much a horrible memory that will stick with me forever) and maybe matching shoes? Heh.
Thanks for the compliment on my glasses, this complete metro sexual dooshbag (spelling is an inside joke) that I used to be friends with, helped pick them out for me. I got them when my hair was much darker, so I think they are a little overwhelming now, but I don''t really care. They are made up of three different layers-the outside layer is solid black, then a layer of opaque white, and then a layer of translucent goldeny yellow that kind of coordinates with my hair. So it kind of works. Lol.

Endless money hmm?? Um. I''d buy a place on Lake Como, a beach side property in Hawaii (for BF), and a penthouse loft in NYC, and a loft here: link because I''ve always loved the buildings there***. Perhaps even a home in Alaska/Canada because it''s so amazingly beautiful up there. And since it''s endless, we''ll throw a condo oceanside in Greece as well as an apartment in Japan. Um. I''d also buy my dream cars (2003 Nissan 350Z, 1998 Toyota Supra TT, 2002 Lexus IS 300) and have them somewhere (maybe here in NM, where there isn''t really such thing as rust). Um. I''d probably buy a lot of shoes-any that caught my eye. And then jewelry to match my cars, shoes, and whatever else. I''d probably design my own shoes, and my own jewelry, put all of it into production. I''d set up college funds for my nieces and nephews because I don''t think their parents will be successful at doing that for them. And for BF''s nephews-the same. Heck, I''d pay his older nephew to go to school, because he probably wouldn''t otherwise. I''d probably insist on paying for everything for my parents. I''d have a huge game room thing for BF with whatever the newest video game consoles are, all the newest video games, an awesome pool table, ping pong table, air hockey, whatever else he could want. And I''d hire a personal chef and trainer so I wouldn''t have to worry about what to eat, and could have someone there to work out with everyday. Um. But I wouldn''t have a private jet (although that would seem almost necessary with all of my homes all over the world, but no...) And I''d have a huge bit of land somewhere with a horse barn and a ginormous nature reserve on it. And I''d have some kind of huge no kill pound/humane association there too. With vets, staff and the whole nine yards. And the pets would be free to a good home. I love animals.
My favorite Vegas casino would have to be.....Probably the Bellagio. I love the fountains, the glass work in the lobby, the shops, the gelato shop, Le Cirque, and the chocolate fountain. I also love the Venetian because of the plaza, Blue Man Group, Wolfgang Puck''s Postrio, and the amazing artwork and creativity that went into the shoppes, it''s just a beautiful hotel, plus Sephora doesn''t hurt! I like the Wynn because it''s all artsy and whimsical, but it has an air of trying too hard. My favorite buffet is at Treasure Island-it''s got sushi and creme brulee for me and regular stuff for BF-can''t ask for much more than that. I like the Luxor a lot because it''s usually really quiet in there and pretty understated. I don''t like Caesar''s Palace because they made it too over the top. I don''t like NY, NY because it''s always INSANELY busy, but I love Zoomanity and ESPN Zone. Oh I could go on and on about Casinos in Vegas. We were there last December-a couple of weeks before the Palazzo was open and I''m so sad we didn''t get to go in it. I''ve heard lots of lovely things about it.

***We used to live about 3-4 miles away from there when I was little after the city had abandoned the school, and I thought they were so cool looking because red brick with interesting architectural detail is FAR from the norm in architecture here in NM, so I''ve always admired the structures. Later in life-high school- my ex was a security guard there, and I''d go hang out with him on his overnight shifts there (not all night-I did have a curfew!) and I still loved the place-even though it was almost entirely inhabited by feral cats, rats and the occasional homeless person (hence the security guards). Now it has a wonderful courtyard in the middle of the buildings that was renovated and is no longer inhabited by cats or rats unless they are pets. And no homeless people. What''s funny is that I tried talking my parents into buying one when they first started renovating the buildings-they cost $70,000 then. Now, to buy the same square footage you''d have to spend around $250,000. They SO SHOULD HAVE LISTENED TO ME!!!!

Mercoledi! Do you know where exactly his hotel is located? There are tons of hotels in ABQ. I think that Zinc/Nob Hill for a nicer dinner would be good and Kelly''s for beer/more casual food would be good too. Um Gruet Steakhouse is pretty good-and across the street from Kelly''s and maybe a block away from Nob Hill. Scalo is good too. Both of those are on the nicer side for boss dinners and stuff. I like to eat at Il Vicino and Flying Star with friends. Those are more casual, but still some good food. And all in the general area of Nob Hill. Seasons is good higher end food- it''s a bit off the beaten path and right by Old Town (Are you interested in any turquoise jewelry? Because there is a TON of it in old town) and it''s right across the street from The Melting Pot. Savoy is another fancier place and I haven''t been there myself, but I''ve heard good things. Also, this is a bit random but we have Dion''s Pizza which everyone who ever moves out of state always comes back to eat at Dion''s, and they are all over the city. And then there is Frontier which is another one that people who leave ABQ come back to visit for. They serve a lot of New Mexican food, but have amazing fresh cinnamon rolls, and tortillas like no one else I''ve ever had. And their fresh squeezed OJ is yummier than anywhere else I''ve had it. Frontier is right across from the University of New Mexico, so it''s got some interesting people around and is great for people watching...I dunno! My mind seems geared towards the fancier places. I''ll try to think some more and maybe ask some friends and see what they say.

I love those shoes BTW, the heel on them is awesome! I''m loving the architectural heels that keep coming out. Are they comfy?

Sorry this was so long guys...
40.gif
I didn''t mean for it to be so long, but I''m all sick and stuff and have nothing else to do and TV is boring during the day time...

Freke I never responded again, but I totally understand what you''re saying now about the depression glass. Haha..it''s like "Oh what did you get?" "I got these new shoes and a car!" "Oh..I got..depression glass.
7.gif
"

Yay! Thank you! He heads out on Thursday and isn''t much for warm climates. There are taxis in ABQ, yes?

The Depression glasses thing is too funny, isn''t it crazy the way relatives randomly decide that you''re ''collecting'' some things? I have a bunch of unicorn music boxes for the same reason. It''s all in the joy of the hunt!

So how much longer are you in school? What are you majoring/minoring? When are you getting back into the kitchen?

Sarah! EXACTLY!!!! Can you imagine the response?! "What the F is depression glass?!"

Mercoledi! Yes, taxis are all over ABQ-they like to get in my way or speed past. Drivers (in general) in NM are sucky.

What was worse than my mom collecting the depression glass for me is that my aunt decided I was collecting small antique boxes. All of a sudden, for every occasion, I had a porcelain, glass, ceramic, fabric, or whatever boxes from her and my uncle. WTF?! I still have no idea where that came from, but I think she stopped doing that a few years ago. The only gifts I really get anymore are gift cards-which are great, but not very personal.

School...I will be in school until December 2009 providing all goes well. This is with 15 credit hours Fall 2008, Spring 2009, and Fall 2009, and then 6 hours this summer (more than halfway done!) and Summer 2009. My major is Psychology and my minor is Sociology, and I''ve only switched once technically-from Art History major/Psych minor to my current. That, of course doesn''t include my jaunt into the culinary realm. Here''s a short breakdown of my academic history.

I have gone to 3 different schools: UNM, Central New Mexico Community College, and the Culinary Institute of America. From the CNM I have 106 credit hours, from CIA I have 30 credit hours, and from my UNM I have 34 credit hours. That''s 170 credit hours currently. With exactly 57 credit hours left to go before I get my BA, I will graduate with a grand total of 227 credit hours.

As a friend (PhD student in Sociology) likes to say, I have my PhD in Culinary Arts.

I will be getting back into the kitchen probably around 2-3 years from now, when BF graduates and we have to move for his job (stupid no university "in-breeding" BS). The plan as it stands now, is that we will get engaged in Spring/Summer 2009 after BF finishes his Comprehensive Exams, I will graduate in December 2009, then I will get a job paying as much as possible so that BF can work less and put more time into his dissertation and graduate sooner. We''ll get married somewhere around a year or two after the proposal-I''m guessing this could end up being around his graduation date. At that point, we''ll move out of state, I''ll take a couple of months off to figure out this business of living in another state, and figuring out logistics with that, and then start figuring out what kind of void I want to *fill*. I''ll probably end up making wedding cakes or working in a bakery at that point.

But until then, I''ll do research and development of my own recipes in the meantime, and start building up that cookbook I mentioned to Gwen.

It''s been a rough week. I''ve been sick with nasty throat stuff, my uncle was diagnosed with prostate cancer, and my parents have been bickering like crazy. So I''ve been laying a bit lower than usual.

I keep browsing gem and shoe sites though, but I haven''t quite broken out the bank card...yet.
27.gif

*hugs* I''m sorry to hear about your uncle/all the other cr*p going on in your life this week.

Is your cold getting better? I''ll be sending well wishes for your uncle.

Good lord, you''re generous! I love your money spending plans. I would have never thought of paying for college for my silly cousins.
I dunno if you want an apartment in Japan though. There isn''t any space in them, unless you are talking about apartments in huge cities with snobbish retired women with dogs dressed like Hello Kitty.

Bellagio is my absolute favorite Hotel for the exact reason you mentioned! And I have the same opinion about the Wynn too
9.gif
As a matter of fact, FI and I were looking into getting married at the Bellagio, but in the end the atmosphere wasn''t what I was looking for. We''ve decided that we will stay there for our anniversary
1.gif

Palazzo is gorgeous, but I still prefer the Venetian. The Encore is going to open at the end of this year, so we didn''t get to see that.

Here''s a story about FI''s friend. She is aspiring to set foot in the culinary area. She heard that UCI was starting a summer session class about the Science of Cooking. Since it''s cheaper than culinary schools, she enrolled in it. Turned out that the class was exactly what the title said; Science of Cooking. She was learning about how the chemical structure of food changes with heat or acid and stuff like that. She dropped the class last week. I guess there is no way getting around paying for a culinary degree...

Thanks LP!! I miss you! How is the new house and Portland?

I do feel better Choro! Thanks for asking about me and for thinking about my uncle.

Lol at my money spending thing. I really worry that my nieces and nephews won''t get a college education if someone doesn''t pay for it. With one brother having 4 kids and the other having 3...well it''s just a mess. I don''t even know if I want to go into detail. But we''ll just say that the other day when I talked to my mom I told her straight up, "When you and Dad are gone, I''m not going to have anything to do with T and K." (My brothers) and what does she say? "I don''t blame you." Hahahaha...We''ll just say they are schmucks. I haven''t been to Japan in all honesty, I just think I''d enjoy it. Heh.

Where is the Encore? Is that the one that was being built across from ph? And next to the Bellagio? Apparently, I have no idea. We''re talking about going again once Fall is over, but we''ll see.

I would love to take Science of Cooking. She should try a local community college. After I got my degree from my community college, I went to CIA (the most prestigious and oldest culinary school in the US-the Harvard of culinary schools as they like to say) NEVER opened a book and still was getting a 3.8. That''s a major reason I withdrew from CIA. That and the cost. I would love to take a Science of Cooking degree. I think she should go back, honestly. A lot of what she''ll have to learn in culinary school will coincide with what she''ll learn in that class.

I''ve been obsessed with gemstones lately. Here''s a pic of my silvery topaz.
IMG_0913sized.jpg

And my favorite shot of it...
IMG_0923sized.jpg

And I have another stone on the way...shhh...it''s a secret...

::sigh:: I do love that topaz! Nice shots!

Hope you''re feeling better!
35.gif

Oooooh, nice gemstone. I love your choice of background.
1.gif

I''m sorry to hear about your uncle.
7.gif
That is always heartbreaking news.

I don''t know how you have the energy for all the school work. My assistant''s both are working full time and going through school, one of them with two kids. It just seems like a lot of pressure.

I hope you''re feeling better. I have been going to therapy for the vertigo. Blech....

You turned purple!!! Changes in your stone color?
27.gif

I love your stones
30.gif
What is the new one you are waiting for?

Thanks Mercoledi!!!

Thanks miracles! I''m really loving these designer cut stones. I love Barry Bridgestock''s chunky facets. But...not such a fan of Richard Homer''s concave cuts because they''re spiky.

The uncle is a bit of an @$$, to be honest. I''m pretty sure he''ll be alright though...the man has been through a LOT of surgery and other stuff. I hope he''ll be fine for my aunt''s sake, because she literally cannot pump her own gas...
20.gif

I don''t really have the energy for the school thing. I have a test tomorrow, and I didn''t go to class today (long story) so I''m not really prepared for it. UGH. I totally don''t understand how people can work full time, go to school and have kids. Maybe two of those, but definitely not all three.

I am pretty much 100% now. Just coughing occasionally.

Choro! Yes I did turn purple. No changes on my stone color. Yet.
27.gif
Nope, blue is my favorite color, and it always will be, but LS suggested a slight change to my normal avatar so I messed around with photoshop until I made it happen.

How about I post my new stone here first? And THEN after a day or two, I''ll post it elsewhere. Hee hee...
But I''m not going to spill the beans until I get it. AND I obviously have to like it too!
