I''ve read on several threads that a well cut 1 ct should measure approximately 6.5 mm and a well cut 1.25 approximately 7mm. Now I''ve read on almost as many that the measurements should be approximately 6.4 and 6.9, respectively. As a matter of fact, I even read one thread that stated those printed charts are optimistic and we should deduct at least 1mm from the measurements listed. So, I''d like to hear from all of you experts out there

, which is right?

Thanks everyone!!

This is taken from Whiteflash''s website, their education section.. I would guess they would know.

There is so much leeway because of girdle thickness, depth, table etc, that I imagine a well-cut round could measure a certain range rather than one specific measurement. For example an ideal cut that is ideal, but shallower with a thinner girdle than another ideal cut may scrape up the extra .1mm in spread. Both could still be ideal cut.

Good fine, Angeline, that is very helpful. There have been a number of posts, lately, and the info has been inconsistent. I have not wanted to give out the old data that I bookmarked, for fear of misleading anyone. This info gets bookmarked for future use

Everyone knows my opinion, and you should always know I am always right

(except when I am wrong....it happened once in 1956, on the ...Anyone get that - Linus and Lucy?).

I would like to see a 14.5mm diamond that weighs 10ct and meets ACA standards? I would even wager John a round of fine Belgian beer

I only know what I''ve learned from reading these boards and shopping for the past few months. The stone I ended up choosing has these dimensions:

1.25ct Round
6.95 X 7.03 X 4.28mm
Depth-61.2%
Table-54%

Not sure if this is that helpful, but at least it will show you what I chose as my final stone for many reasons.

well... they do have a 7.5ct ACA that measures 12.71mm here
and a 5.1ct ACA that measures 11.12mm here

as for how big a 10ct is in real life... best ask these chaps: 24 carat who have a 10.10ct D IF (for £785,000 or $1,271,700)
tho they do think the attached image is a picture of a excellent diamond (G SI)

Love that chart! Though when posting it here I''d add WF''s disclaimer on that webpage that the pictures aren''t completely accurate with sizes...as the 2 ct looks bigger in the picture than the 2.5 ct does.

It is a very convenient mm chart!

The DiamCalc chart is a great idea. I am waiting for Sir John to pop up and shower me in beer though.

BTW, on my screen the smaller stones look yellow and the biggest looks blue white? Is it just my screen?

It's just the lighting. Maybe somebody was wearing a cream colored shirt at first.

p.s. I can say that, I''m an Aussie.

Lines 3 and 4 on that chart have the same photos on them don''t they??Isn''t that why the 2 looks bigger than the 2.5?

I've tried 3X now and wasted about 50cts of rough. Do you think Brian will be angry?

That chart needs some adjustment at the high end, and it does appear lines 3-4 are the same. I can plead (some) innocence as it pre-dates me.

Garry, can I try the challenge again using jadeite - or beryl?
