Alright. Yes, I'm being melodramatic. But I happened across a local Wedding Cinematography (NOT videography) website while looking at area boudoir photogs.

And I'm in love.

I'm TOTALLY kicking myself for not considering this before budgeting. I DEFINITELY would have given up a TON of stuff in order to have a few short hours of this incredible filming. I wrote off videographers because I think the finished product looks cheap, but these "movies" are a WHOLE different story. I love the idea of having footage of the day in DVD form that I can keep for years. These videos just capture something that photos do not.

So, either slap me and tell me I'm CRAZY for wanting something SO LAME at my wedding, or tell me how to save up $3000-$5000 ASAP

Can I sell a kidney?

I don't know why I'm so captivated be these mini-movies. The worst part is, I'd have to fly one out to Ohio, as I can't seem to find ANY in the region that do phenom work. I can't believe I'm even considering this. FI would kill me. :sigh:

Anyway... I may be swooning over the one company in particular because I LOVE the majority of their music selections, which tips me off to the fact that we probably have a lot in common... or indie rock, at least? I'm ruined for life.

So, check 'em out and let me know if you have seen/heard of any other companies that offer a comparable service (besides Cinematic Bride which charges an arm and a leg) Linky!

(Sorry for all the words in all-caps. I'm really fired up, if you can't tell!)

This may be a better linky

wow do not blame ya in the slightest, i want one now too lol
those videos made me tear up at work!

I am fairly morally opposed to a good 60% of wedding "must-haves" (or at least, I try to tell myself that

) but.....yeah, you need that. Wow.

Bahahahahahaha... Miscka, you crack me up

Such an enabler, you are! Tisk, tisk! (as if I didn''t ask for some enabling!)

you''re not the only one!

i fell in love with these wedding films too!!! they are more pricier than regular videographers but you know why just by watching the films. it is a movie and not just a recap of the wedding.

this is the video that made me NEED one for my wedding (and IMHO, is better than the one you saw
5.gif
): Audrey & Cesar SDE <--- this was a SAME DAY EDIT video which, from the name of it, was edited on the same day of the wedding and played during the latter part of the reception!

there''s actually a couple of videographers that does this in the NYC area but they are expensive. the one who made the SDE above is mad cheaper compared to them even if i have to fly them over to here!

i''m still talking to FI about it but i''m really, really saving hard for it! haha.

Cleo- That video is AMAZING!

Do you know what their packages start at? Under 3k? Even 2k is pushing it here. FI gave me a strong, emphatic, ''NO!'' but I''m going to push his buttons a bit more and maybe play the Bridezilla card. He sees it as unnecessary yet I haven''t heard of one bride who regretted getting a video of her day.

His response to me was, "You should have thought of this before hiring a pricey photographer."

:sigh: I shouldn''t push it.

I feel your pain but may have a solution for you! I, too, fell in love with videographers after it was too late. BUT, I am doing something that will let me save up and is sort of a compromise.

This company www.wellspunweddings.com will do an "edit-only" option video for you AFTER the fact. You can have friends and family members do all kinds of video-ing, then send him the raw footage and he will put together a beautiful vintage-style video for you!! As long as you have people doing some great video, the special moments will be on there.

Prices are $695-895. Do-able AND you can save up for this expense AFTER the wedding. Love it??? I do!

Actually now that I think of it, maybe other companies would do that, too, if you asked them???

Hmmm... I know what you mean. I don''t like video, but I did look into the cinematography. It''s really beautiful! I just couldn''t justify spending another $4000+ for a movie about my wedding day. I tried to fit it into my budget, but I would have just had to give up too much. I figured that I would just splurge on my photographer and have some really great pictures.

My final justification to hanging it up: How often was I going to pop the movie in when my friends came over and say "hey- watch my wedding again!" I''d probably be the only one truly watching. Lots of people want to see photos, however.

Not totally worth in, in my opinion, unless you just have the money to spend or unless your heart will not be content without it. The work they do is beautiful, though!

PilsnPinkysMom: hehe... when is your wedding? want to share with the travel expense of bringing them over here? ;)

Amanda.Rx: true. not all friends would want to really watch the video but in my case, i wanted the video to be seen not by them but my kids... and grandkids... and great grandkids (hihi). sortta like, when i''m old and gray, my great-great-grandkids would say "dang! great-great-grandma sure was a hottie!" hahaha

sigh.... I went over budget for that (wedding is september 19th). So I will definitely be an enabler here! I am hoping it will be worth it.

Lee: Ah! Thank you SO much!! I definitely need to look into this. FI said I only have $500 to work with, but I''m sure we can scrounge up a bit more if we pass on our love of dining out and stop shopping at Whole Foods. Seriously.

Cleo: Gettin'' hitched December 19th of this year. Nearly three months away. Cue panic attack.

I feel awful for fussing over a videographer cinematographer. I haven''t been the most frugal bride, but generally started out wanting the "most affordable" of everything... and along the way a few things have been upgraded. Or I just didn''t do my research well enough. I feel bad enough for letting my budget get out of hand, but feel worse that I''ve been childish all evening nagging FI about ways to save an extra $3200. As if it''s "nothing." Which I TOTALLY know it''s not. That''s a ton of money. And considering I''m the full-time student and he''s the full-time working adult, I need to shut. my. trap.

Hi, my names Rachael, and I''m in need of a major reality check

Hmmm. Ok, so I didn''t look at the link, so I haven''t been enchanted by this thing like you have, but my thing is this, really--when do people sit down and re-watch their weddings? Yeah, sure, when you first get it, yay what fun, but then when, after that? I cannot, hard as I may try, imagine popping in a video of myself dancing and talking to people for hours on end (and James probably just talking since he almost never dances), instead of watching a proper movie or something on TV. Even for an anniversary, it just seems strange to me. Like it''s something that''s supposed to be a happy memory that is allowed to fade a bit so only the best bits and that overall warm, fuzzy feeling are left...instead of seeing it through a camera lens, which will capture things differently (and not necessarily better) to how you remember them.

Maybe it''s just that I''m not a home movie sort of person, and if so then feel free to ignore me completely
1.gif
, but my experience is that people don''t watch them--they just keep them on a bookshelf or in a box somewhere, and know that they''re around in case they ever DO want to watch them. But that''s a hell of a lot of money to spend on something to mostly collect dust, especially if (as I bolded) you run the risk of pissing off your hubby-to-be by nagging him about ways to save money that he''s mostly earning and you''re mostly spending.

I have insomnia so I'll just chime in here too

. Basically, ditto.

I have looked at both "films" and the second one, in particular, is really charming. But... I really think the only parts that couldn't be captured equally well in a good photo album are the priest's words and the vows. In other words, as charming as these films might be, there's a huge "is it worth it" factor if you're on a budget and you already have a good photographer. There's also the question of how much time you want to spend mugging for photographers on your wedding day, especially if you have two crews following you around, each wanting you to pose for their special shots. If money's not an issue, go for it. If it is... you can always use your professional shots and the photos that your friends and family will no doubt share with you to put together your own slide show, set to your favorite music, later on.

Pilsn, I went through the same thing as you. I went from thinking videography was cheesy to seeing a beautiful 8mm film and *really* wanting it. But the guy here was 6k and that was just too much for me to even consider it.

leeNY, is there an example of the edit-only vintage video? I''ll dole out camcorders if we could do that.

Have you watched the video without the soundtrack? I''m afraid you are enjoying the web design and music more than the raw footage.

If not you should do this and see if you feel the same way about it. I think the song is great and also works really well with the style of wedding they did, so the song is really a huge part of the video, but any art student can add music of your choice to a video.

They could even do the video for you! If you truly want art (like this cinematographer''s work) call your local art school and ask to speak with the film department. Schools will usually then do an internal email or posting that will inform students of your need and they will reply to you. You can interview them, ask to see their work, etc. and either set your price or ask what compensation they want. Especially since you like indie music a young artistic representation of your wedding might fit perfectly. Just be aware that they will probably want to show off their work in their portfolio, but you might be able to find someone to do it for a couple hundred bucks!
