I broke my toe last night by kicking the hinge on our open bi-fold closet doors really hard. I didn't intend to kick the doors, of course, but was trying to kick my leggings off my foot

I can't walk well. It will take 4-6 weeks to heal.

I am really upset because my husband and I have been training for a 10k race which is in 4 weeks ;( ;( ;( I likely won't be able to run it. :blackeye:

Oh no! So sorry about this Dreamer! :blackeye:
I'm sending you buckets and buckets of healing ***dust***!!!!!! Here's hoping you can still do the 10K!!! And take it easy till then...you might just be able to do the marathon. (((HUGS)))!!!

Ugh! I feel your pain.
Have lots of ice packs on hand. Swelling is the enemy!
And speedy recovery!
(I'm 90% through my foot surgery recovery that involved breaking the big toes and setting with screws. Ice still feels great some days!)

;( :(sad

::DUST:: for quick healing Dreamer!!!

Sorry to hear about your toe. I broke mine last year TWICE! Just make sure to tape your broken to to the next one and try not to walk on it too much.

Oh, that SUCKS - I am so sorry. I hope it heals quickly and painlessly (insofar as is possible).

:(

Oh no, Dreamer...I'm so sorry this happened. Sending you healing dust.

Are there any exercises you can do in the meantime so you can continue to work toward your goals...like swimming or something?

OH NO! That is PAIN. Eep. It always seriously happens when you are doing something like this, something "silly" or "dumb". I have broken bones in my feet and toes doing similar super amazing moves, or dropping seemingly light and non-dangerous objects that land on my foot and it is amazing how easily that does damage. Ugh! I know it's upsetting but don't totally rule the run out yet. Just take it easy, tape them together, and hopefully you'll be ok soon.

So sorry Dreamer. I know it's frustrating when you've been training for the race, but there will be other races. Just rest up and let your piggy heals.

Oh no! Oh Dreamer I'm sorry! I broke my pinky toe a week before my university's Dance Marathon (you stay on your feet for 30 hours and raise money for the children's hospital) and was able to do it still, so I will keep my fingers (and toes!) crossed that you heal quickly and are at least able to walk the 10K!

Yep, you've worked so hard! Can you make an appointment w/a physical therapist to see what exercises are okay? Maybe the stationary bike or something... I have to say that since I've started working out my biggest fear is I'll injure myself and have to start from scratch. The other day I tripped on my aerobic step and fell on my butt! Ugh. Luckily it was just embarrassing b/c my son was right there. Anyway... There must be other exercises that you can do to help train?

I broke two metatarsals in 7th grade. SOrry about your race.

that stinks, I hope the recovery isnt too awfully painful :(sad

so sorry to hear that. that sounds really painful =( I hope you will heal soon~ sending dusts on be able to do the 10k run

Ouch! So sorry!

I broke my pinky toe a few years ago when I ran into the door frame of our bathroom. I walked around with my toe curled up for a good two weeks. But once it started feeling better it got better quick. I hope the same will hold true for you!

Oh, poor baby! Keep it elevated as much as possible & stay off it. Dust blowing your way, all sparkly, that it's ready for the marathon!

OUCH!!!! :(( So sorry, Dreamer!!! Hope it heals quickly!

Thanks everyone for the sympathy, empathy, and commiseration!

I am holding out a small bit of hope that it is not actually fractured. I saw the doctor and he agreed that a fracture is likely, but I opted not to have an x-ray because it takes time and it would not change the treatment anyways. So MAYBE it will be better sooner than later?? I sure hope so.

The doctor mentioned that I can bike. We live very close to a recreation center so until I can run, the plan is for me to use that drop in facility to use the stationary bike. I think I will need about a week before I can wear runners and bike, but hope is not lost. I was fearful of being totally "benched" because it would be so hard to keep losing weight without excercise, so hopefully biking works out. And hopefully my toe heals fast!

Ouch! :errrr: I hope it's not fractured and that you can run the race!

Oh no!!! I'm so sorry! I hope that you can run the race! You've worked so hard.

OUCH :!: ..Sending you a lot of healing dust!!

Oh no. Get well soon dreamer!

Ouch! I did that once with a wrought iron bench in the middle of the night!

I'm guessing they just said wrap it up or buddy tape it and take it easy :( which is about all you can do.

Get better soon!

Ouch, sorry to hear! Stationary biking sounds like a great idea. Sometimes a new form of exercise gives you a boost, anyway. Good luck for a speedy healing process!

Ouch! The bike idea is great for keeping up with your training. The less weight bearing you do for a week or so the better for you.
I broke my big toe a few years ago dropping a large jar of peanut butter on it! Walked in a Relay for Life event about 3 weeks later! It was sore but I could walk;)

Aww, so sorry, Dreamer! What a bummer. :knockout:

Ouch! I hope you feel better really soon! Hopefully you can relax this weekend and be waited on hand and foot ;) Sending you plenty of healing dust!

I have broken a toe a few times! It hurts! I hope it heals quickly and you can still run the race!

First, I am so sorry to hear this. I hate when our little miscalculations don't work out. I personally would not take any responsibility for the way your closet door jumped out at you when you were kicking off your leggings.

I hope you are a fast healer and it allows training within a few weeks.

Speaking as one who currently has a very sore thumb on one hand and a cast on the other, these things really serve to remind me what its like to get old and have these kinds of limitations as an often permanent part of life. :(sad :errrr: :(sad

Dust to you!
