Hi everyone--

I am having a diamond crisis!!! Okay, so I MAY be a little upgrade happy. I had 1ct round for 2 years. Purchased a 1.5 radiant. Had it until it CRACKED, (appx 1.5 years) and replaced it with a 2ct. radiant. (Oct. 07) (Thank heavens for good insurance!) I have posted many pics of the new setting I just got last month, and I REEEEEEAlY like the new setting. However, (you knew there was a but here!), I have this perpetual dissatisfaction with this ring. I thought it was the mounting at first, but now I am thinking it may be the diamond!! Don''t get me wrong, its a gorgeous stone, but I am not getting the spread I want from it. My fingers are typical appx. 6.5-6.75. So I am not dealing with large fingers affecting the diamond presence. But I feel like I am wasting the look of a 2ct. with this radiant stone. I see people with 1.5 rounds and they look HUGE compared to my 2ct. radiant. Yes, I know rounds give maximum spread, but I think I may be leaning towards going back to a round. I swore I would NEVER do this!! So for the part of my husband is going to wring my neck--I think he is so tired of me changing this ring. I don''t blame him--I would prolly be irritated the shoe was on the other foot. I so need some advice here--please give me some input! I am practically planning my monday out to be at the jewelry store! Please help me!!

I think he should get you a 5ct you deserve it!

woops that wasnt the kinda help ya wanted?

storm is overtired silly this morning lol

Oh I like the way you think!!! I am actually pondering getting the stone swap done, and just waiting to see when he notices. He is not always the most perceptive at small details. And while jewelry is a HUGE detail to me, its miniscule to him. Think I can pull it off??!!

Hi Hairgirl!
I remember you picking out that new set--not too long ago eh? Well, I'm sorry, but I can be of no help to you, as I have a little upgrade problem myself

I switched from a princess to a round recently, so I totally understand wanting a different shape. I really love rounds. I like the spread, but really I just love the way they're cut, and I love that their proportions are easy to measure, ensuring brilliance with a well cut stone.

Are you sure you don't want to give it more time?

Sometimes we just change our minds. I think that's ok. A two carat round vs. a two carat radiant? I'd have to say round--is this the kind of input you're looking for? not sure? (hope I'm not being a terrible enabler) I feel ya!

eta: I'd keep hubby in the know, tho--sounds like your set on it!

oooh you are the perfect person to ask in this situation since you just changed from a princess to a round. What do you think of your stone change? Are you happy with the change? Yes, its all about the spread. I must admit I am a bang for your buck kind of person. I wanna keep the new setting--I have been really happy with it. Just the stone that I want to change. I would love to hear how you made the decision to change to a rb and what you think now that you did it. I look forward to hearing your answer. And yes, you can enable me any day when it comes to diamonds!!

Hi, If you can afford it and you are really not happy with that size, do it! If you don''t do it, it will continue to just bother you! [

Yay! I'm happy to enable

I LOVE the change! I'm a bang for my buck person as well, so I understand that too.
My princess wasn't the best cut in the world either, so that was part of it. The more rounds I saw, the more I had to change. I'm really new to the whole diamond thing. I got my ering a year and a half ago--oh how my tastes have changed!

I love rounds! I went from a 5.6mm princess(1 carat-they face up small) to an 8mm round (1.85 carat.) This was a big jump for my size 4! A week later I was ready for 9mm

I'm glad your keeping your setting! It will look gorgeous with a round. Can't wait to see photos!!!

eta: oh, and how I came about the change? I'm really impulsive--luckily, so is hubby--I just up and did it!
oh, and another thing, I did try setting the princess in a 3 stone, in hopes that I would like it more--it didn't work--I'm so glad that I switched to a round!

Oh thank you for telling me your experience. Yeah, we are both a little impulsive too. I want to stay with a 2ct. but just change shapes. I think I can work with the jeweler to where I can do this fairly economically. I agree with you--I think the round will look really good in the new mounting too! Oh man, I can''t WAIT for Monday. Now I just gotta get the nerve to go back to the jewelry store----I bet the cringe when they see me walk in the door!! That or dollar signs! Thanks so much for your help coatimundi. I am really glad to hear you like the change you made. If I go through with this I will definitely post some new pics! I think I am like you--I thought remounting it was going to solve all the worlds problems. While I like the setting much better, it really comes down to I want to go back to the round. Never thought I would say that! Thanks again for your input. And when you want backup for that 9mm upgrade I am here for ya!! lol

You know...I am not so sure that my husband would, lol! Ok, he might notice my original e-ring stone since it is a pear and we both wanted a pear (he really likes them as do I), but if I were to change the shape of my three stone ring...he probably wouldn''t!

Hehehehe I know I''ll probably want to upgrade eventually and I can just picture my SO''s eyes rolling back in his head....

Pricescope definitely makes us feel that we need to upgrade

and besides, it''s okay to do so because look at how many people are doing just that.

I was quite content with my .64 round brilliant until I stumbled on another diamond forum. I fell in lust with the princess cut and asked DH if he minded my changing the stone. He gave me the right answer when he said, "It''s only a stone; no big deal". I saw that as my opportunity and bought a 1.77c princess solitaire from Blue Nile ( not a good choice of vendor, btw) and then set it in a custom design with .80c trillions on either side. I was thrilled .....for a while. Then came PS and I learned a lot about how to buy a diamond, and saw some lovely examples of others'' choices. I came very close to buying a lovely asscher from GOG (they''re great!!) to wear as a right hand ring. Unfortunately, hubby''s business needed extra funds right at the same time, and trying to do the "right thing" put the ring money into the business.

What do I wear now? Fakes! Horrible comedown, but DH hasn''t noticed even though he prides himself on his perception. I''m not really deceiving him, I''ve just kept my mouth shut. "Vanity, thy name is woman" was never truer

LOL Legacy I can just picture the eye roll on my end too! Everytime I mention the jeweler, my husband crosses his arms and just stares at me. Its like he is bracing himself for my next diamond insania! But, like a few others have posted as well, I really doubt he would notice the upgrade, at least in the beginning. I give it 3 weeks before he notices!!

I''ve been contemplating changing out my wrings since I got my upgrade about a year and a half ago. The wrings I had were channel set PC and just didn''t sparkle enough. I drove my husband CRAZY trying on anniversary band after anniversary band trying to add sparkle to my rings. I finally bought one then took it back. Bought another one and just yesterday bought a larger band and a new ering. My DH told me yesterday to get what you want so we don''t have to keep buying things then taking them back. So my advice is if you can afford it get what you want.

Yup when we were looking we went into B&Ms and I was like I want to see this range to this range and the price tags were insane!! I think his jaw about dropped when I was like I like this one!! (to a 16k ring HAHAHA). I told him not to worry and that we''d end up paying 1/3 the price online which we did. It''s going to be done this week and I can''t wait to see it. So far I am soooooo happy.

Well, I have been searching the diamonds on here this weekend in an attempt to even further educate myself before going to see my jeweler tomorrow. I really narrowed it down to either a 2ct round or 2ct oval. I am looking for maximum spread for my buck. I have discovered that I kind of got shafted on the current 2ct. radiant I have. I got it pre-pricescope and didn''t know then what I know now. I realize now that I lost a lot of "face up" in my stone due to depth. My 2ct. actually looks a lot more like a 1.5ct.
29.gif
I do have a trade up policy with the jeweler, so based on some prices I found here (my jeweler is in the same range) I should be able to do this pretty economically. My radiant is actually showing as being more expensive than the oval, and the round is slightly more expensive. And no, I haven''t sprung this on the hubby yet!!! I am actually sitting here biting my nails thinking of how to bring this convo up with him. But he is like your dh marcyc he just wants me to be happy. I really want this upgrade (or in my case lateral move) to be the last one for a while. I really am tired of not being 100% satisfied with the ring.

I''d tell your husband what you told us. I believe doing anything without his knowledge or consent is just wrong, at least it would be for me. I hope your talk goes well. Good luck.

If you are like me until you get exactly what you want you will continue to stew and settle for something else. It costs me more money in the long run too. Since your husband sounds like mine I am sure he''ll be glad to let you get what you want so you''ll be 100% satisfied with your ring.

I just had the talk with him--and yes marcyc I got the whatever makes you happy!!!! He even offered to go along for the ride to the jeweler. YAY!!! Looks like it may be a good Monday! I hope they can help me pick something I like better. My other half kinda likes the oval idea too. If I can''t find a radiant with the measurements I want we are going to explore the round and oval options. Thanks for your input--its been fun to chat with ya about it! I will let you all know what we decide to do tomorrow. I think I am going to call them and see if they can pull some stones for me to look at so I have their undivided attention when I get there. Its a really busy place.

Oh for the record Kaleigh--I think you may have misinterpreted the joking sarcasm of not telling him what I was doing. I really wasn''t being serious. It was more of a joke at my hubbys expense, as in he is not always the most perceptive person. But thanks for your concern.
