I went on a huge bridesmaid dress shopping excursion with my friend and two of the other bridesmaids on Saturday in Boston. It happened to be the Head of the Charles (the biggest collegiate rowing regatta in the country) so Cambridge was SWAMPED and there were roads shut down. This also happened to be the day that my GPS decided it would die on me (its only 4 months old) so we had printed mapquest directions that led us down said closed roads. I get extremely stressed when driving in cities, when I''m late, and when I am lost. We happened to be all three trying to get to our first appointment. We ended up being 45 minutes late. Whoops. They were pretty understanding.
We checked out Jim Hjelm but weren''t too excited in the end about dresses we thought we''d love. The other two maids had relatively small chests compared to mine so some of the strapless dresses looked GREAT on them but horrible on me.
Then we drove back into the city and went to two more stores on Newbury Street. We found THE dress at a place that carried many different lines. I had seen the dress we ended up choosing and falling in love with it on the Watters website but I didn''t want to be pushy about it when I saw that the second salon carried that style. I tried it on first and the bride was really happy with it. Then we passed it around and miraculously it looked great on all of us and we all said we could easily wear it again! I find that last statement the holy grail of bridesmaid dress shopping.
We reluctantly went to our final appointment because we had already found the one and tried on a few more styles to make certain that we had found what we were looking for. The last appointment ended up being the most fun though. We weren''t stressed and we knew that after that we could just stroll back to the car and be on our way without worrying about keeping a schedule.
Without further ado- we will be wearing Watters WTOO style 416 in Cognac colored chiffon with a peridot/appley green ribbon belt. I apparently will be wearing a white or ivory ribbon belt depending on what color the bride''s dress is. Cognac is their dark brown color (its hard to tell on the website).
I just wanted to give a shout out to Bella Bridesmaids on Newbury Street in Boston. The woman who worked there was SO sweet, kind, helpful, patient, etc. She had a fantastic personality and we will probably try to order our dresses from her if she can come down in price at all to try to match the online prices we found. Its hard to justify paying $50 more for a dress just because you liked the sales clerk.
