[Guilty Pleasure]

Hello everyone! My fiance proposed on Sunday, so even though I've been posting on this board for a while, I thought I would introduce myself and say... "I'm getting married!" We plan on getting married next summer in Bryan, TX, but other than that, I have no idea! After the proposal, his mother gave me a bridal magazine, and we were reading a section about timelines. The third thing on the list said, "Discuss a budget with both sets of parents," and I looked at both of our moms and said, "well maybe we'll just wait on that list!" and flipped the page. I think I will just enjoy being engaged for a few days before I flip out about the overwhelming process of picking a venue and paying for everything etc etc.


I'm so glad that I know about this board because I am positive that you all will be a huge source of relief and information! I love all the creative and beautiful ideas that I've seen here

Oobiecoo, thanks! I''m a little nervous about planning a wedding in another city, but his parents live there, so maybe that will help a little. If you have ANY ideas about venues or have heard of good florists, bakeries, caterers, etc, in BCS, I''d be extremely happy to hear what you know.

Congratulations and hello from another Texas gal! How far away from BCS are you?

I was in BCS until Sept. 22nd and then I started working back in Austin. I got the call just yesterday that my dress came in at Blissful Wishes right there on Texas Ave across from the University, but they''re going out of business so I have to have my dress picked up by Thursday at 5 when they shut the doors for good.

Thank goodness my cousins still go to school there and can pick it up for me!

I''m in Corpus Christi and 4 1/2 hours away now. I''m so glad your sister can pick it up for you! I''m also happy that they have your dress for you and didn''t just close shop, leaving you high and dry!

I love the Corpus area. I had an uncle that lived in Odem and worked at Flinthills. My dream house is somewhere in Rockport yet to be found (and funding isn''t there anyway for it so I hope I don''t find it yet).

I definitely lucked out there! I guess we should all be a little wary with the economy like it is.

well hello there, and CONGRATULATIONS to you! You and I are in the same boat, so tell me how you really feel... isn''t it weird to get all this started? I mean seriously, the prospect of talking about money with the FIL''s and and thinking about how many people will be invited seems a bit daunting! It was all fun and wedding dresses when I could just post on this board for other people''s weddings, but now it seems overwhelming! However, I feel like once we get the venue, I''ll feel a bit more settled in this job of planning the wedding.

My fiance said, "Let''s just go to Vegas in a few weeks" I am 72% sure that he was joking, but he doesn''t know how attractive that sounds!

It is a bit overwhelming!!! I''m totally dreading the $$ talk, and just hoping the FILs bring it up first (and soon!). I''m just starting to make appts to look at reception halls, but I think when I actually start seeing them it''ll start to feel more real. I mean, since I''ve gotten engaged I''ve just been going to work as usual, so it hasn''t fully hit me yet. Although, staring at the ring gives me a bit of a reality check.

Ahhh the money talks. It''s only been a couple weeks here but my parents seem to think they will be paying for it all and FILs also want to help pay, it''s not the funnest battle in the world, i''ll tell ya that! We''ve been trying to figure it out for about 3 weeks now, ugh!
