OEC's—what do you think of these?

How are you going to set this? The 1.69 has an extremely thin to thin girdle and I'd be nervous to put that in anything other than a bezel. It also has a larger table than I like, but it's a pretty stone and nice mm size.

The 1.55 would be my choice of the 2, but I would ask and make sure the feather doesn't pose a structural issue.

I really want to prefer the J/VS stone, but I like the facet pattern and proportions of the J/SI2 much (much) better. It's a gorgeous stone with nice spread for the weight. The J/VS is a little deep for my liking, among other things.

I've seen very few truly clean SI2 stones. Have you confirmed with the vendor the SI2 is truly eye clean? I might want a neutral third party (qualified appraiser or trusted jeweler) with the right equipment to examine it and confirm there are no integrity issues. That's the only thing that gives me pause with the SI2.

Both of these are lovely. Each old cut stone has a one-of-a-kind unique personality. Discovering what you like in an old cut takes time and handling of lot's of different stones. If you cross all the other hurdles, the ideal thing is to see one or both in person so you can decide for yourself what you prefer. Good luck-- I hope you find the perfect antique stone.

Thank you for the feedback! Really appreciate it.

The setting I'm going for is with pear side stones (totaling about .5 cts). I could see the J S12 in person but the other one is in Seattle. Would a GOG AVR perform significantly better than a non-branded one like these?

Define "perform" if you mean light return, yes. I can tell you that my eyes strongly prefer the "personality" of old cut stones to the perfect faceting of the branded old cuts. At the end of the day, all that matters is if YOU like it. :wavey:

If you can, see the SI2 in person. And share your concerns with the vendor so they are prepared to address them.

As to whether a modern precision cut stone will perform better than a true antique cut is a matter for debate and personal preference. It's really about what appeals to your eye. That's my diplomatic answer. :)
