It sounds like you''d be happier with a newer, larger stone. I absolutely love OEC stones, but I''d want one with less obvious flaws. You have reasonable grounds to send it back if that''s what you choose to do. Good luck!
 
This is a tough one, and it really does sound like you are torn on what to do...if it were me, I would probably return it. It is gorgeous, I love the diamonds and the setting, but the visible inclusions would bother me. I would also feel that I was lied to, and that would really not sit well with me. Good luck in your decision.
 
You can find other old stones in better condition. I''d return it if it were me.
 
If you''re not in love with it, send it back without guilt! That''s a big chunk of money, and you should really be happy with what you get.

I''m such a sucker for old cuts, but if you''d be just as happy with a modern RB then by all means let the PSers help you get a great one!
 
The seller did not disclose information about the stone and it appears that his own grading was overly generous. Unless you love this ring, I would suggest returning it.
 
Thank you everyone! Just an update on the situation.

I have contacted the seller of the ring & ask him for a refund. I have paid approx $300 Cdn on duties & custom for this ring already. If I am to send it back, the seller will be charge for custom fees as well. So I asked the seller if he can give me a discount so we can avoid all the trouble. He offers me $800 US back. (18% OFF) I orginally pay $4400 US for the ring on ebay for F, VS2 quality (of course, he is too generous with the grading).

So now, if I take his offer of $3600 US for a G/H SI2 european cut ring. Did I pay too much for it or do you think it's a fair price for a ring in this condition?? The seller said that I am getting a good deal!

I hope you guys can give me opinion on it as I don't know how much a european cut diamond cost usually. THANK YOU VERY MUCH IN ADVANCE!!!!
 
Hmm. Well, I guess it comes down to whether you really love the ring. Are you sure about the customs and duty? Isn''t that refundable to you when you return the ring? I''m not understanding why he''d have to assume any customs or duty if you''re returning the ring. (I''m in Canada too btw) I''m concerned that he may by lying or misrepresenting the facts about that aspect.

I just called fedex & ask about the custom. They said the $300 Cdn custom fees is not refundable when I return the item. The seller will have to pay custom fees as well.
 
I can''t say if that''s a good deal or not. I hope others will chime in with regards to the price and given the real appraisal.

I *know* how difficult it is to untangle our customs laws, but you should be able to phone someone and ask if it''s true that the seller would have to pay customs to take the ring back. I''ve never heard of that before, but I could be wrong. Obviously, if you were returning the ring, you would get a refund from Customs, although it may take a little while. I have seen another thread here where people were just being charged PST and/or GST depending on the province (AB obviously doesn''t have PST). I wish I had more information for you.
 
Well, quickly here''s a stone from the PS diamond search feature; if I''m reading the stats correctly it''s similar to your center for $3411 (though of course your G/H was given while the stone was mounted).

Then of course you have your plat setting and another ~ .5 carats. Your $3900 (with customs) seems relatively in line with that -- hopefully others will weigh in. And you''re *looking* at the stone and finding it pretty -- in a sense it comes down to are you willing to pay X for Y?

Lyra: If the seller refuses to pay custom, he won't be allowed to have the item. I will have to call Canada custom tomorrow to find out the truth about getting a refund on the custom, but Fedex told me that I can't get the custom/duties back. So you have heard that ppl can get a refund on custom? I just got charge 6% of the total price as I live in Alberta. Thank you very much for your help!!

Vix: Thanks for using the PS diamond search!!! But I have heard that older cut usually cost less...& I don't know how much plat setting will cost in a ring.

I guess I am clueless when it comes to diamond & I really need to do more research & spend more time in this forum before I go ahead & buy another ring. I have learned my lesson this time & I think I will only buy from reputable sellers on line like the whiteflash! The stone is pretty & tomorrow, I will bring the ring to a jewelery store & try a Round Brilliant ring approx 1 ct & G/H in color & SI2 clarity beside the old European cut ring so I can compare the two rings.

Vix, if you decide to keep the ring, don''t forget to factor in extra $$ to polish that chip out! It''s a beautiful stone, but I would worry about leaving that chip there - one good knock could turn it into a BIG crater.

I''m partial to OECs myself and I think that ring is sooo beautiful, but you need to compare both cuts yourself and decide which you like better

Wolftress: I am not sure if I will spend more money to on that ring & polish it! I mean, I only wear ring occasionally (on the weekends) as my job won''t allow me to wear any jewelery! I just have to make sure I am careful with it when I wear it!
