Wedding odd ceremony time

I know that most weddings start on the hour and some at the half hour. Has anyone been to a wedding that started at the quarter hour, ie. 3:15? Would you think it was a bit odd and not the norm?

It would probably be fine, but if you think it looks weird, others may as well...

Why not just put 3pm on the invitations? People will invariably be a couple of minutes late, and 15 minutes is a reasonable "cushion" that won''t make your on time guests wait forever....

I don''t think it''s a biggie at all (then again, I grew up in a church where Sunday mass starts at 10:15 - I never knew that was strange!). I''m sure when I was looking at invitations that I saw sample wordings that were "a quarter past three o''clock in the afternoon," though, so it can''t be that strange.

Ditto to Rockzilla though - if you want to put 3 on the invite, that''s probably no biggie, but several of our guests started arriving about 30 mins prior to the ceremony, and 45 mins does start to push it in terms of a wait. I think you could do it either way, but if it were me, I''d just do the "quarter past" thing in your invite wording.

Ours is "scheduled" to start at 6:15 (as in, that's the time we're planning on), but we put 6 on the invitations. We have a lot of chronically late friends and family

We're going to have a cider station for those who arrive on time/early.

In answer to your question... no, I wouldn't think 3:15 was strange. It's just a time. If it were 3:07, I might wonder... um, why not 3:05? 3:10? But I wouldn't blink an eye at 3:15.

I think people might forget the time more easily if it is a weird one. People are more likely to remember "exact" times I think.

But I don''t think it''s weird at all. Personally I would probably do what Musey is doing instead though...

Thanks for all your feedback. This is an outdoor wedding in August in NorCal and the summer heat is brutal sometimes. Unfortunately there is not a whole lot of shade at my venue. My only concern is that if I put 3pm and don''t have it start until 3:15, people who show up early will be waiting a long time in the hot sun.

Well then, you''ve made your own decision! Put 3:15.

In my case, I was much more worried about latecomers than earlybirds, so it made sense to ''trick'' them into coming on time

But then, my venue has plenty of shade.

Hi Sapper...my wedding in Maui is starting around 5:15, so my coordinator instructed me to put 4:45 on the invitations, so they say ..."at quarter of five in the afternoon."

I am concerned that our guest might just end up roasting, so I am going to buy folding paper fans and water bottles to distribute as they arrive. Hopefully that will keep them all from melting to death!

By the way, I am from NorCal, too! Whereabouts are you?

My coordinator also recommended putting the starting time as 30 min before real starting time so I think 15 minutes is totally reasonable if yu just want to put 3:00.

Ah, another Bay Area girl! I am up past Sacramento, about 20 miles east towards Reno.

How are you going to do your DIY program fans? I thought of doing this, as well, but I''m so tired I can''t seem to think for myself these days!

I''m going to do my fans like the picture. This isn''t the greatest picture, but there are some better ones with the same concept floating around. It''s a whole lot cheaper to DIY. I bought a bunch red and white cardstock from Michaels when they had their 6/$1 sale. I''m going to alternate the panel colors between red and white. I found some really cute flower shape eyelets on ebay to use to hold the fan together as opposed to the plain one in the picture. I haven''t figured out exactly how much it works out to be, but I think it''s probably around 50 cents for one.

Our weddng is at 7:30 due to it being outdoors and in July. The invitations say 7:15 so that we don''t get a late start. I don''t think it''s strange at all.

"a quarter past three o''clock''

That''s how the House of Commons and House of Lords put it.

Same here!! We are having to put four on the invites and it won''t start until 4:30 or 4:45. Seriously, my father''s side of the family is getting different invites than those I know will show up on time. I think that 3:15 is just fine to put on an invite.

Mandarine did some incredible ones...I think I may still have the templates she sent me on my computer, but I think you can just get them from her old thread.

My concern with those is how on earth do you make a clean edge when cutting them? My hands are so shaky that I''m worried about them looking sloppy!

I have a paper cutter that I will use for the straight lines and scissors for the rounded parts. I think the key is to go real slow. Hopefully they will turn out ok.
