OK so I got a few pics of the chips in the stone after I tripped and dropped it. One chip seems quite large to me and right on top. The other is on the bottom and barely noticable from the top. Maybe a bezel would hide it? I will contact Dan to see if it is fixable but I am not too hopeful. Big surprise I am such a glass half empty girl (working on that). The good news is it wasn't an expensive stone and I've learned a lesson here. Do you think this is salvageable? Thanks for the support last night

Cemrn,
I’m so sorry about the damage. ;( There’s not much you can do about the chip on the crown due to the size and location. A bezel will cover a small portion of it but most of it will still be noticeable. I’d definitely leave the one on the pavilion alone.

Maybe it's just my eyes getting old, but I'm having trouble seeing the chip in the top pic - is that spot near the girdle at about 6 o'clock, or is that the pavilion chip showing through?

Either way, I'm not very optimistic about Dan being able to do anything, and he'd probably need to see the stone in person. But you're right that at least it was a relatively inexpensive gemstone.

I find the apex interesting - on one hand, it might diminish any tilt window that's so common with lower RI stones, but on the other hand, I'd be nervous that it would be easy to chip if set in a ring.

Keep us posted.

Yea there is no saving that baby. I contacted Dan to cut another one for me. I think I'll go with a simple modified RB this time. I've had my eye on a setting that I think will be perfect. Maybe after all of this I can come out a happy girl....I am not taking this one out of the box except on carpet!!
