Check out this thread: https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/please-describe-an-old-mine-cut-and-an-old-european-cut.48086/

And, try searching for "OEC" - a lot of threads should pop up!

Kristy,
thank you so much for your response. I think this O.E. cut stands for Over Excellent cut, by Hohoemi Brains, a Japanese company that claims to have a cut that returns more light than other superideal cuts. It is not Old European cut from what I understood by translating that page to English.

Try this thread. You may also contact Hohoemi Brains directly. I exchanged several emails with them and they were happy to answer all questions I had as best they could.

Hope this helps.

Thank you for responding Superidealist!
I was mostly curious if anyone has seen these stones in person. I understood that they are sold in only 3 stores in Japan. And you can''t find them anywhere in the US.
I figured maybe O.E. cut is comparable to an eightstar somehow.

I haven't seen them in person, however the people at Hohoemi Brains at one point sent me a few high-resolution photos of the round OEs both alone and side-by-side with so-called triple excellents. They also sent high resolution photos showing the pattern produced at a distance of 30cm by multiple beams of laser light focused on both OE and triple excellent diamonds. The OEs are tuned for a viewing distance of 30cm, so the results favored the OE.

As far as I know, they have no distribution outside of Japan but seemed open to partnering for US distribution. I believe they have attended trade shows in the US, so maybe one of the professionals here has seen them in person.

I would be interested in seeing these as well.

(By the way, my avatar is their logo.)

could you post those pictures they sent you or is it an infringement issue?

Sadly, I deleted the photos long ago. If you are interested in viewing them - and they were quite interesting - I suggest you contact Hohoemi Brains directly.

I am not associated with the company, Neil, just interested in the history of Japanese diamond cutting. My previous avatar was a graphic produced for the Apollon Eight, the first "heart and cupid" diamond.
