Happening there as well.

Protesters do not like this evening's guest speaker, so they are causing violence at this University as well.

Yeah, because yet again a very conservative extremist was booked, people (as expected) got riled up, he then proceeded to shout from the podium

“You’re a dumb liberal *******” at an NYU employee and left.

Common sense tells me that hiring these people to speak to students if farkin stupid. Like at this point, what do we need to do? Have a KKK rally at Harvard? The majority of people don't want extremists on their turf, and that's probably not going to change.

He was attacked , almost sprayed, and provoked. He has rights, too.

Ruby, no one is saying he doesn't. Did I say that?

I thought you were implying that this man was crude and deserving for making this comment.

I apologize if I interpreted you incorrectly.

Your original post did not give an unbiased, balanced view of what actually went down at NYU. And frankly, I'm getting sick of seeing stories like OMGPROTESTERS as though we should absolutely take one of the most volatile times in recent memory, throw some alt right extremists at college campuses and see what happens. This guy is a well known self proclaimed "troll" who enjoys inciting drama and ire. And NYU thought the current climate called for this guy to come lecture to students?

The more the days go by the more I think these are all just stories that happen for no other reason than that they were planted to incite further division, distraction, and we are all eating it up.

What worries me is that I suspect the administration (e.g. Bannon) wants to incite protests in order to garner support for some kind of rule banning all protests (even peaceful ones). Not that big of a step from there to some sort of martial law. I used to think stuff like that sounded like an insane conspiracy, but given Bannon's own words and recent actions I no longer think it's that far fetched. :errrr:

Yup. I'm starting to come out of the post election fog and it ain't pretty.

For those of you unfamiliar with the history of protest at the University of California, anarchists from OUTSIDE campus have been hijacking peaceful student protests at UC Berkeley for years for black block type marches, from “Black Lives Matter” to anti-war rallies. Anarchists tend to be in high supply in our little neck of the woods, and Berkeley is their rallying cry for their small chaos sprees (I’m not sure exactly what they want, other than the dissolution of the world order). It has left many in our nation with the impression that our university’s students are crazy revolutionaries who want to overthrow the state.

I quoted above from one of the articles. How can you solely blame this administration as apparently this group been causing chaos for years.

You are again twisting my words. Pointing out that their choice of speaker was misguided doesn't solely place the blame on anyone and I never said that. Stop reading what you want to read to follow whatever dialogue you're running in your head and have a conversation, you might get better results.

Some examples of the fine, enriching, and thoughtful work Gavin McInnes puts out into the world (I believe he is the father of a young daughter):

Transphobia Is Perfectly Natural" via Thought Catologue
Called black actress Jada Pinkett-Smith a "monkey"
Founded "The Proud Boys," a self-described "Western chauvinism" group advocating for "anti-political correctness" , "anti-racial guilt"

"When you close your eyes, plug your ears, and say, “La-la-la-la-la, everything is normal and everyone’s the same,” you run into problems real fast. You can start by claiming nothing is perverted but before long you’re having “Sympathy and Science for Those Who Want to Have Sex With Children.” You begin by defending a woman’s right to choose but before you know it, killing newborns is deemed “morally irrelevant.” The lunatics are running the asylum and they’re running it into the ground."

"You can be an incredibly feminine homosexual. You can even wear a dress. If you think you’re anything but a gay man in a dress, you’re a mentally ill gay man in a dress."

In fact, some here might applaud him because he calls feminists delusional for thinking they can serve their country as marines or firefighters.

He taunted protesters and then ran crying into the night.

We have a history of protesting what we don't like, whether laws, or speech.

The 'guy' has a right to speak, the republican club has the right to have him there, the students have a right to protest this guy. The line draws when mob violence takes over and people are hurt.

While people should have the right to free speech, we should also be cognizant of when they are being placed in our midst in order to provoke protest. I do not condone violence. i think that protest should remain peaceful. When people do wish to break the law in acts of civil disobedience to protest peacefully but to put flies in the ointment, I think they should be willing to go to jail. In other words, if the protestors at Berkeley had decided to lie down and block the podium and be arrested, I would have had no problem with their protest.

I happen to have attended both NYU and UC Berkeley. Good places for protests when I was there. ;))
