NYC diamond district vacation FYI

So that none of you newbies have the experience my fiance did last summer, the NYC diamond district will be closed from 6/29 to 7/17 2006. The district takes a vacation every summer. Unfortunately, while I was aware of this last summer, he wasn''t - thus delaying our engagement!

Wish I had known this before booking flight. Well, GOG and Excel and other big guys will be open still, right? You''re just talking about the smaller jewelers in the diamond district?

GOG is on LI, so I doubt they will close. However, I can''t say for sure.

The vacation schedule for small independent retail jewelers varies during the summer. Sometimes the frustration lies with the retailer being open and the supplier or manufacturer being closed. You have to allow extra time for special orders during the month of July, especially. Always call ahead before visiting your favorite retailer. Hope this info helps.
