nyc diamond district shopping....

hello,

i am going to try my hand at diamond shopping in the diamond district of nyc. i am going to purchase a "clarity enhanced" brilliant round 1.75 loose stone that is SI1/G that is premium cut.

can anyone suggest vendors who sell alot of "clarity enhanced" diamonds in nyc?

we just purchased the home and are under serious budget contraints. budget is 5K. strangely, i would feel like a cheap whore wearing a CZ.

the minds of women are a peculiar thing, i know....

I figure that an AGS0 H&A 1 ct G SI2, or a 1.5 J I1 costs about 5K.

and this is a 1.75 G SI1 for 5K? officially, the grade is pre-treatment, but I''ve seen them sold as the grades after treatment, although disclosed as such. so say it''s the grade after treatment. a 1.75 G I1 isn''t going to cost anywhere near 5K.

yup, but it was previously a G I1, right? the treatment, if anything, should ADD to the price of the stone.

This stone is going on the PS database for a little over 5K. The cut is not something that PSers would buy. So if you add in the cost of the enhancement and get to sell it for more becaue it looks better, it really doesn't seem to me that you can get a nicely cut 1.75 G SI1 (after treatment) for 5K.

You can buy an excellent quality diamond from vendor with an upgrade policy and then get one in a larger size later. Clarity enhanced stones are hard to get rid of, and you''d only loose money if you later decided to sell it and get a nice quality diamond. Truthfully, I''d feel more comfortable wearing a high quality CZ (such as an ASHA stone) for awhile until fianances would allow me to replace it with a nice diamond. I doubt many well cut diamonds are clarity enhanced, so you''re not likely to get a great diamond that way. To read more about diamond quality, see the Good Old Gold section on the 4 C''s.

I agree with avoiding the clarity inhanced stone and just working with a vendor who has a trade up policy. That way, you can get an excellent stone know within your budget and then when you're ready they will take the stone back, give you the value you paid and add it to a bigger stone. Julie is right though, a 1.75 clarity enhanced stone is going to cost you more than 5K
