i know the jewlery show is in Las Vegas next week. Will most of the jewlery stores be open for business as usual in NYC or is it not a great time to go?

Not a great time to go. We have been trying to call in diamionds all week for clients and almost NONE are in house at the suppliers. Most of the goodies are in Vegas.

bbb- If you can drive to NYC, drive to Long Island instead- and go see GOG.

47th street is not a good retail environment for diamond shoppers.
It''s a shark infested pool. Even if you are smarter than the bad guys, it''s too risky.

Just my .02- I walk down this block every day. I see what goes on.

I''ve heard the same of people who''ve gone ring shopping there, the store owners/workers are kind of cutthroat and even a lot of experienced jewelry buyers won''t go there.

Exellent advice from what Iv heard about 47th.
Even if you visit 47th for fun it would be a good idea to give GOG a visit before buying.
Talking to David aka diamondsbylauren depending on what your looking for wouldnt be a bad idea either.
He isnt much into super-ideals but if fancy colored diamonds tickle your fancy then arrange a visit with him.

thanks for all of the responses. I was really going just to browse and see what shape stone i want. There are so many stores there that it makes trying things on pretty easy.

Its a nice way to see lots of rings and settings, but not a great place to buy. I personally love Signed Pieces, they have a booth at 15 West 47th street. Booth 42-45. I bought my eternity band from them and was very pleased. The vendors that were mentioned are awesome. But the rest of them you can have, IMHO. If you want to go and get ideas of what you might like, yes it''s a good place. Just be careful, there are sharks there and the pressure tactics are horrible.

Definitely check out

Avoid DIVA Diamond on 47thb street at all cost. The owner of this shop is not trustworthy. A total scum. He is got a few operation on that street. Avoid them at all cost.

Exactly!

personally i wouldnt go to the diamond district even to look........the people are annoying etc. To LOOK, and SEE SHAPES and DESIGNS--go to top notch jewelry stores like Tiffany & co, or Hamiltons in NJ or whoever is the really big fish near you first. You can see what you like with no pressure get prices on what you like and then go onto pricescop and search for the same stones to compare.......................

Window;
I def agree, if you walk down the street there this store owners I guess stand out there and will say hey are you looking for a diamond and all of this and ask a million questions, it is a pain.

Also, about Diva jewelers, I went by there store one day and they seemed to be pretty annoying and pushy and they didnt have anything that looks good in the window either
