DH has started talking about a trip in the Fall. I suggested and would love to do NYC again. I wanted to see Blackbird and Hamilton. On stubhub tickets for Hamilton are $700-$800 in the back, in the Orchestra $1,300 -$2,500. :-o

Did anyone see Hamilton before it went to Broadway and crazy? Would love to know what you thought. At this rate looks like Blackbird and something else will be what we see. Open to suggestions.

Missy we loved, loved, loved Le Bernadin but this trip is not a special event so looking for another of your suggestions with less dollars signs in their Open Table description. :naughty:

I hate to be the bearer of bad tidings, Mayk, but Blackbird closed on June 11; it couldn't muster enough ticket sales to sustain a longer run.

I did see Hamilton in its Off-Broadway preview days, think our tickets were $40 each. I wasn't as enamored with it as I'd hoped I would be, but honestly, I wouldn't pay upwards of $700/seat for any play, musical, or opera.

Does your employer offer working advantage or plum benefits discount? I remember using plum benefits to buy discount orchestra seats for Broadway Shows.

Darn! I missed that. A friend was there and saw it and really liked it. He's also seen the Phantim something like 35 times. I should always doubt him. Probably helped to be a Jeff Daniels fan.

Also, found out shortly after post even friends with great connections can't get these tickets. Guess I will wait for sure. Also, bummed you were not impressed.

Mayk! Yay so excited for you guys coming to NYC again. And autumn is the best time of year in NYC IMO.
OK off the top of my head and I'm running late so will return here if I have more suggestions...my favorite low key restaurant is Molyvos. Greek and fresh and delicious food and a nice environment. For a bit fancier but still delicious Greek there is Milos. Not crazy expensive but a bit more expensive than Molyvos and more fancy. A great experience both restaurants so you cannot go wrong. Molyvos is more casual and Milos more dressy. Both are conveniently located midtown. Right across the street (sort of) from each other.

And then of course there is pizza but you cannot go wrong anywhere in NYC IMO for pizza. Save that for lunch and dinner would be good at either Molyvos or Milos.

Then there is delicious vegan food so let me know if you are interested in one of those options. NYC has some really good vegan but I don't know if you and your dh are interested in that option.

I also have lots more fancy options but I know you are not looking for that this visit but if you change your mind...

Love Bouley so much.

LOVE Jean George too. So romantic.

and then there is Eleven Madison Park.

I am sorry MayK because all my faves are so expensive but I think you will enjoy one of those 2 Greek restaurants we love and those are way more reasonably priced. BUT if you decide to splurge any one of those other 3 I am recommending are AMAZING. But you can save that for another trip. :naughty:

And just an FYI for you and your dh for more options.

And let me know if you will have any time to get together. We would love that if the timing was right. :wavey:

Broadway Box is a very reliable means of getting discounted tickets to Broadway and Off-Broadway shows. It's too early to see discounts for fall performances, so check out the site as the summer progresses.

And here's a handy seating guide to all the Broadway theatres, akin to Seat Guru for airline tix:

Don't know if you have lots of flexibility in scheduling your visit, but September thru New Year's Day is a high season for NYC hotel rates; the last weekend in October and the weekend + Monday night before Thanksgiving typically have lower rates than the norm for that time of year; Sunday nights are often less expensive than other nights. Your wallet will appreciate you avoiding most of September (e.g., US Open, NYC Fashion Week, the UN's annual General Assembly) & the first weekend in November, when the NYC Marathon takes place on that Sunday.

Are there any particular cuisines you love, or conversely, don't care for?

Thank you ladies! This is perfect. Missy I'm sure we will end up at one sorta pricey and always pizza!

Great suggestions Molly on timing thank you. We are flexible. So I will for sure check the last weekend in Oct. DH's BD is 10/25 so that could be perfect.

Can't wait to research the links.

I'm hopeful that hotel rates for the last weekend in October won't be truly obscene; I just checked the Javits Convention Center schedule, and there aren't any huge honking' conventions (like the Toy Fair) booked there for that time, so there won't be a gazillion convention goers in town. :))

Don't know how you usually shop for hotels, but I like Kayak because it aggregates rates from a wide variety of sources; it's easy to navigate & to change your search dates, otherwise tweak the results:
https://www.kayak.com

Alas, HotelChatter .com is no more; it's the web site I used to rely on to find out what new hotels were opening when, so I could encourage would-be visitors on the TripAdvisor NYC forum to take advantage of opening rates (and sometimes hotels offer special perks to their initial customers) . But next weekend, I'll try to find other sources for that kind of information & let you know if there are any promising possibilities.

Yay you are going to have the best time Mayk! Also just want to add that you can order tickets now and get discounts for the autumn. I always order tickets many months in advance on the discount sites and score sweet seats for a discount. Not a huge discount but still nice. You can definitely get 30% off at least and can order now for the fall. So start looking if you are interested and if you need help email me. The trick is checking every day for the seats you want. They release new seats almost every week so if you don't see what you want one day you might get it the next. I don't mind checking for you if you give me the shows you want to see. Funny you mention Hamilton. Our good friend just saw the show with his son and wife and all 3 of them sat separately. He was raving about the show insisting Greg and I must see it. I don't plan on it because for the price of the show I can get a new OEC. Well JK but almost. Some lucky students are going to get to see the show though so good for them!

LLJsmom, Jersey Boys is an amazing musical. You are going to love it! So glad you and dh are going to get to see some NYC broadway action. :appl:
