I thought it would be fun to hear what the moms or dads look forward to doing with your kids :D What is on your list? Or what do you already LOVE doing together?

I am super excited to watch all the Disney movies I love or just taking them to the Movies

Oh and watching all the holiday cartoons/movies on tv  w/ a big bowl of popcorn!

Baking cookies with them and just cooking.

Teaching them to organize and clean house.

Taking them to Disneyland.

Going to the beach and making Sand castles.

Going on a road trip and hearing "Are we There Yet?"

Teaching them to ride a bike, and roller skate.

Trick or Treating

Christmas Caroling

Doing homework together and seeing the light bulb turn on! :ugeek:

So many things:

- reading books that I loved: Ballet Shoes, the Narnia stories, Harry Potter, Arthur Ransome, loads and loads of others

- making painted eggs at Easter, decorations for Christmas and other craft projects

- taking her to dance lessons

- teaching her traditional drawing skills that they no longer do at school!

- teaching her to cook - my mother taught me, and forgot to teach my siblings (and it shows!)

There are so many fun and exciting things to do and to watch them learn.

Last month we went out to the woods and collected leaves and tiny pinecones, then we picked rosehips from the hedgerows (all in Central London) - Daisy painted the leaves and pine-cones with gold paint, then I ordered a glue gun and a straw wreath from eBay and we made an Autumn Wreath. It was really fun to do and the end result was actually really nice!

Skippy, can I send Daisy over to you to learn how to clean and organise - she won't learn it from me!

Sure, send Daisy over; I would love to have your little girl w/me for the day!

I love your list!!!! I forgot about all the great books! Oh and I love that you collected pinecones to make a wreath!

Very timely...I've been thinking about this with the holidays coming up!
I can't wait to be Santa! I'm much more into Christmas this year and A isn't even at an age to understand, but I'm so excited to start traditions with my family!

Definitely Disneyworld.

Grow a garden.

Build a snowman.

Go hiking.

Sledriding and hot chocolate!

Oh and I can't wait to go to baseball and football games!

(I told DH tonight I want 3 more kids...haha, Aubrey's had a great day ;))

Re: Now that you have Kids ? do you look forward to doing w/

Skippy, can I send M with Daisy to get lessons in organizing? Or better yet, can I come??? :appl: Your list is magical!

So many good ideas! Pandora, I'm stealing your ideas as well! Charbie, making a snowman sounds amazing!!!

I'll add some more off the top of my head:

Telling magical fairytales to her as we play in enchanted forests looking for elves and leaving them yummy mudpies decorated with flowers

Hiking up to a spectacular view where I will hug them and tell them about their grandparents and family history

Seeing her play soccer, softball or whatever she wants to play - ride a horse, have a go at archery, ride horses...anything!

Floating with her and DH in a warm ocean on our backs soaking up the sunshine (wearing sunscreen!)

Making her delicious food and popping a bite into her mouth - watching her eyes widen at the yummy flavors and new tastes

Reading her a book or more at bedtime, watching her brush her tiny teeth and get into her jammie jams

Hearing tiny feet scamper in the hallway and giggles filling our home as DH does a funny dance to make her laugh

Skiing and bundling her up in something toasty before a hilarious snowball fight

Looking for the toothfairy together with flashlights

Taking her to different countries and seeing her absorb the different languages and cultures

Teaching her how to swim

Teaching her how to sing and play piano if she wants to learn... if she plays violin, viola or cello, accompanying her on piano

Taking her to football or basketball games with DH all dressed up in team gear and face paint!

Making things with her - arts and crafts, pottery...drawing her funny pictures

Picking out her bedroom furniture set together...what colors, wood, bedding, wallpaper & etc.

Going shopping together, getting our hair done together...mani/pedis!

Going to the movies together and sharing snacks

Watching her face when I take her to Carnegie Hall or the Met for the first time for a concert.

Taking her to church on Easter Sunday in a new dress, shoes and hat. Hunting for Easter eggs using her little basket.

Teaching her about faith, spirituality and God. Seeing her relationship wtih God grow into a personal one.

Giggling over pranks we can play on DH. Getting "mad" at pranks she will inevitably play on me. :naughty: Laughing over pranks I will play on her. I just know I will have bad prank karma since I pranked my own mom so much as a little girl. It is coming back threefold and I will need lots of heart medication!!!! :naughty: It's on!!!

Sleepovers in the living room using pillow forts. Camping in the backyard with flashlights!

Taking her stargazing, teaching her about astronomy.

Picking flowers together.

Going to the library.

Watching her try to decide which ice cream flavor to get.

Giving her the diamond stud earrings I wore when I was giving birth to her. Telling her that Daddy and I will love her forever.

Watching her walk out with a wedding dress on...knowing when she thinks it's the right one. Taking her out to lunch to celebrate finding her dress. Toasting to her happiness.

I look at her tiny left hand and imagine a diamond ring there someday. Hearing her voice or watching her beautiful face when she tells me the news.

Watching her graduate college.

Seeing her roll her eyes at me and flip her hair when I remind her not to forget something... Priceless! I will do my best to look annoyed but inside, I think I will be rejoicing at her independence and enjoying her teenage antics. I hope to celebrate it all on the inside while being a strong parent outside.

Giving her all the books that I have loved. The books that changed my life. Discussing them together.

Telling her how DH and I met. The story of us.

There are so many things... it would take a lifetime to list them all!

What a wonderful thread, Skippy!!! :appl:  :appl:

Re: Now that you have Kids ? do you look forward to doing w/

Oh! And I have one more to add!

We set up an e-mail account for little M and have been e-mailing her little things here and there in case we forget. Sometimes they are stories, sometimes they are little notes telling her how much she is loved... Even the Grandparents are e-mailing her! We also send little photos in the e-mails along the way. Sometimes they are funny, sometimes they are profound.

One thing I look forward to is giving her the password to her e-mail account so she can read all the e-mails Daddy and I have been sending her. We started doing this when we knew we were pregnant but it's never too late to start! I can only imagine how much fun it will be for her to either open a book we will make out of all the e-mails or open the account itself one day when she is old enough to appreciate them.

I think it was a PSer who came up with this idea and whoever it was - THANK YOU!!!

Re: Now that you have Kids ? do you look forward to doing w/

Great ideas in this thread!

I'm looking forward to just about everything, I guess. Even the simple things are fun with her. Tonight we were lying on the bed together watching TV, and she started this game we have - where she does an action and I repeat it. It ended with lots of shaking and rolling around and laughter! Such fun. I really enjoyed it. :))

I'm also really looking forward to Christmas this year, I realize, more than other years. I'm really looking forward to putting lights on the tree (even though our electricity rates are so high here :knockout: ), just cause I know she'll love it, just as I did when I was her age.

Bliss, your list is beautiful!
This is so far down the line, but I hope that one day, A wants children of her own so that she can feel the immense love her father and I have for her. I've always been so close to my mom, and now I know why she has and would do anything possible for us.

Not to be a downer, but I look forward to raising her to be proud of her heart and the scar she will have from surgery. To being active members of the American Heart Association group, fundraise for it, as well as give back to the children's hospital where she is having surgery and already has been taken care of so well at. Hopefully we can volunteer there in the future!

Oh, and I can't wait to have exchange students stay with us! So our kids can have "brothers and sisters" all over the world. I was an exhange student and always said I want to host students here whenever possible! I hope my own children want to be exchange students!

Re: Now that you have Kids ? do you look forward to doing w/

I like all the lists - haven't they all got nice things planned!

N is nearly four and really, girly so some of the things I had secretly hoped she would do have gone well. She loves ballet and cooking and is obsessed with the Disney Princesses (we took her to see Tangled dressed as Rapunzel and she nearly exploded with excitement). H is 16 months and just getting to grips with a few words. I look forward so much to them playing together and ganging up on us when they are older.

- We definately want to take them to Disneyland when they are older.

- Craft projects, I save good shaped boxes and can't wait for them to both make things together, N and I made a cardboard fishtank at the weekend.

- SO can't wait to take them to see a Rugby match, I'm not sure how well this will go, our fairweather daughter refuses to walk down the freezer aisles in the supermarket because its cold

- Horseriding, we spent a lot of our childhood at the stables and I would love them to do the same.

- Family outings to see Father Christmas followed by a Christmas play at the theatre.

- Books, I know they will like more current books but I was so obsessed with Judy Blume I don't think I will be able to resist slipping some into N's bookshelves.

- Proper adventure holidays!

- We have a (very neglected) veg patch at the back of the garden and I think the time is almost perfect to tech N&H about growing food.

My nephew is 8 and yesterday, while we were all sat around the table he came running downstairs proudly showing that his first tooth had come out - the cheer that erupted from the grown ups gave me a lump in my throat.

Re: Now that you have Kids ? do you look forward to doing w/

I think it may have been me with the email account - we set one up for Daisy when she was born and it already has about 200 emails. I haven't read any of them either, they are unopened waiting for her. DH emails more than I do, but I send a special letter for her birthday each year at the minute of her birth.

One I forgot is teaching her about gemmology. She already has her own loupe and a spectroscope (and knows how to look through them) and my UV keyring light has gone missing and I have my suspicions. She asks to look at my collection all the time and has her own small collection of stones and crystals from museums, all chosen by her.

So far she has been down three mines and been panning for gems.
