A 235 carat diamond, the size of a hen''s egg. Nare Diamonds Ltd said it uncovered the gem on April 19, 2006 at the Schmitsdrift mine in South Africa . (Nare Diamonds Ltd/Handout/Reuters)

I would love to see what they do with it! I wonder what a guess of the yield of that diamond would be when cut for carat weight, and what shape it would end up as?![]()

Looks like a classic Kimberly mine faint to light yellow stone, very clean, sometimes with a nice tone of fluoresence.
This will be an important finished stone, 100 carats plus, with nice secondaries...
Although rather difficult to judge from a low res photo, I am inclined to agree with Dia-Gem. This stone could polish white
The photo seems to indicate a highly weathered surface or possibly a resorbed diamond
In both cases it’s not uncommon particularly with alluvial larger stones to have a yellowish patchy outer skin and very white inside.
We should watch the mining press and see what becomes of this stone.
